Canon 4600 printer ink
Discussion
I have just bought a 4600 printer for photo work and am looking at ink.
I feel I should use genuine ink for the photos, but it has 2 black cartridges. Presumably the larger black is for everyday printing, so I could use a compatible one for this?
Also, I notice some sellers advertising a Gray cartridge for the 4600. Should I use this? And if so should it replace the smaller black one?

In my experience the 'compatible' cartridges are nothing but trouble. The proper Canon cartridges (unlike Epson) allow you to run them right out so there's not a drop left and I haven't had to clean the heads once in over a year of use (iP4700, the successor to yours). Don't understand the question about the 'grey' cartridge - as you observe, there isn't a grey cartridge. Clearly it doesn't go where the yellow, magenta or cyan go and the two black slots are of different sizes so what's the problem?
