I've just booked to do a one day course learning the basics with 'Going Digital'. Has anyone used them and got any advice on what to take, bar the obvious camera, tripod etc?

Thanks
Kirsty

I have just done a 4 evening class on digital basics.
I would say take a good large pad and pen and make as many notes as possible. In my classes, it was a lot of talk to practice at home. Most just listened blankly and didn't have a clue at home.
Also, take everything you have. If you have any questions after the course about any part of the subject, you can ask the instructor who can point you in the right direction with your kit, rather than in general terms.
Over all, just go relaxed and ready to learn, and most of all, enjoy it!

Thanks for the response - thought I'd said that at the time . . oops.

Well - the course was fantastic! Lots of time spent first thing learning about terminology, how your own camera works, and talking through example shots to understand how the photographer had acheived a specific thing - very helpful.
Then a few hours taking shots for three specific assignments - to practice what we'd been through in the classroom. The tutor was on hand to ask questions, and where he thought necessary steer us onto the right path smile
We then sat as a group comparing the shots we'd all taken - again talking through what we'd been aiming to get and where we could improve.

Excellent course for people like me who were a bit stuck on auto/pre sets. And far easier to learn the basics than from a book. Also lets you understand your own cameras functions too - I'd never even considered playing with a lot of those settings.

I'm going to spend a good bit of time practicing what I've learnt so far, then I'm definitely going to book to do the second section of the course - well worth the money IMO biggrin
