Saw ZZ Top at the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton on their recent tour. Sensational. Never thought I'd get to see them live! Billy Gibbons must be one the "coolest" guys around. Some great driving tracks too ...

Cheers. Was having a closer look at yours earlier and there are some really nice ones.
Out of curiousity, I'm thinking our paths may have crossed because I bumped into (well, more like tripped over...
) someone who was often to be found sprawled out on the gound with their camera - I'm guessing it might have been you ??

Probably a wise move that one !
I spent quite a bit of time crouching and kneeling down, and my legs are killing me right now !! I did try just holding the camera at the required height and trying to get pictures that way, but ended up needing about 4 or 5 shots to get one I was happy with, so reverted to the tried and tested technique of looking through the view-finder

Great show though - still can't quite decide which was the car I would have most wanted to drive home...

Don't know how you manage to get some of yours, Nick - how long did you have to wait for the right people to walk past to get number 14? Really fantastic shots and I love the processing.
For what they're worth, here's a few of mine. The rest are here

Really like the one of the cars in front of house - not sure I saw the chopped green one as I was wandering about, but there were so many cars there I guess you're bound to miss a few.For what they're worth, here's a few of mine.

Not sure which one you're referring to as number 14 - is the one of the woman standing in front of the rat rod ? If so, she wasn't even aware I was taking the picture but I spotted her and grabbed a few pictures. It's actually quite heavily cropped to get rid of a few less attractive passers by...

But other than that, I just took a healthy dose of patience that day
I was using a mix of lenses - 17-35 zoom, 50mm f1.4 and a 105mm manual focus - so with some it was easier to get people to notice I was trying to take a picture, but often I just had to wait until anyone I didn't want in the picture had moved. Longest I had to wait was about 5 minutes or so.Actually most people were really good about not getting in the way of the camera, and by the same token I waited patiently and didn't ask anyone to move because they were there to look at the cars just as much as I was, just that I had a camera in my hand.
As for processing, most of the shots are straight out of the camera, including the really contrasty ones. For those I was able to use a 'picture control' setting in my camera which someone had created, and which was called 'Top Gear'. It's a set of pre-set adjustments to saturation, contrast, sharpness, etc., etc., and I can select it at the click of a couple of buttons. Makes things much easier than having to do it all when I get home

Ah! I'm afraid there are too many Nicks on this thread!
I was referring to nick_bbb's shots. Considering the vast swathes of cars there it's remarkable how many of your (Nick_M) and my shots are of the same thing. But nick_bbb, as always, takes the prize for artistry. Sorry too I missed you nick_bbb, I was keeping an eye out as I knew you'd be there somewhere. love the style as always 3B

Fantastic pics guys, its good to see them.. and see what a proper phographer can come up with shooting the same material
Great show wasnt it, the attention to detail on a number of those rods is nothing short of superb!
A couple of pics from me, feel free to crit away at them..

I think this one just pips it to the 'one I'd most like to take home' award. Though the silver '34 pictured above was very close too. (I do love a good '34)

Borderline guess time, but...
I *think* the matt black one is a Hudson Hornet, not sure of the year.
And the red one is a Pontiac of around about 1950 model year.
Not sure of precise model though - quite hard to tell because of the angle of the photo and the degree of 'chop' in the roofline.
