Anyone have any pictures taken from the above lens?

Looks like a good zoom lens and I am interested...

Thanks, Mr T

There are some out there for about £1k, but don't expect great results (apart from in really good lighting conditions).

If 50-500 gave good results, we'd all use them

ETA - FYI a fast 400 mm Nikon lens is £6,500!

Go on to flickr and search for the Sigma 50-500. Comes up with loads of pictures.

I've used a Sigma 50-500 - not impressed to be honest. Hugely heavy, rubbish in low light.

Ive seen some good stuff from the Bigma, but to me I think its just asking far too much from the glass.

Jack of all trades comes to mind.

Bigma OS (5-500 OS) which is new is supposed to be better opticaly tho not quite a match for the 100-400L

Still large heavy and slow.

To take pics of what?

I got chatting to a guy that had just started shooting weddings recently, and he was very proud of his 50-500 even though it's possibly the most inappropriate lens for weddings ever.

I guess wildlife, motorsport etc is where that lens becomes worthwhile?

It is a large, heavy, slow lens as has been stated, and as a direct result it will have limitations which will need to be worked around and compensated for. However decent images can still be obtained under most conditions (although the more light the better!).

I think people are being to quick to slate the 50-500mm sigma. I agree that it will be harder to get good results compared to top end canon or nikon glass, but i have seen some great results from the (original non OS) sigma!

A photographer (called john robinson) from another forum i read has taken some truley stuning (competition winning) bird and wildlife images with this lens.

see his profile on birdguides for examples of his excellent bird shots, taken mostly with this lens http://www.birdguides.com/iris/profile.asp?u=32847

Dont think anyone is saying you cant get good images from it? You can get good images from the kit lens too.

At 500mm (and no IS/OS) and f6.3 you realy need to be up on your technique to get the best out of it though.

Tho to be fair you've posted a whole lot of pix that seem to be 1000px on their longest edge which isnt realy going to show much of anything when talking about lens quality.

Much better to post a few and link to 100% crops or full sized images.

Fair enough I'll take them off then.

I recently bought a Sigma 50-500 fo my Olympus E-3, and whilst lots of the comments are correct you should bear i mind the value this lens offers. I had thought that it would only be good for static shots of wildlife etc but I was tempted to use it at Silverstone at the weekend with a monopod, here are a couple of examples:

Bear in mind that this was the first time I had used this lens, I am pleased with the results, I would normally be using a 50-200 F2.8-3.5 and doing more cropping.

Darren.
