We have a 1895 built house, which will shortly be undergoing a large basement conversion. (I hope to get some pics and a running commentary going if anyones interested).

Part of this conversion will require underpinning the external walls and moving or demolishing some exsisting dividing walls.

Our original electricity meter and lead lined mains cable will preferably be moved to a different area. Before i contact the relevant company, does anyone have any experience of costs for this? and also the logistics?

There was a thread on here recently about this. fking expensive was the answer!

However, it transpired that moves of less than a meter (I think) were free, and there might besome legs in working out three moves you can do a month or so apart to effect the move without the four figure bill!

rsv gone!

EDF would do it;

They are a lot more efficient and helpful than they used to be.

Smiler.

The supply from the DNO can only be moved by them (probably EDF in your case). They may elect to replace the cable & meter. It won't be cheap.

You can minimise their cost by carrying out out as much of the works as you can yourself. Ground-works are usually the killer. If you can, post some pics & any plans/sketches you have of the existing/proposed.

i've just had this done. This week in fact.

Moved the meter approx 4m from high level in a kitchen cupboard to the coal shed/understair cupboard. Also removed the external clipped supply cable off the back of the house that was feeding next door and running them a new underground supply cable. Cost £520. That's through yedl.

Gas is going to be more and that's less work! £690!

Last time i was involved with a meter move it cost £40k!

I suppose the fact that we had to go back to the sub-station to put in a new supply and dig up 2 main roads contributed to that figure!

Was for a small supermarket with a lot of new fridges going in!
