With the demise of Hagerty's insurance coverage for post 1981 TVRs I have like everyone else been doing the tedious trawl of all the other options.

It looks for me as though Mannings will be getting my business as the cover seems ok at £199 (for 2K a year, which I'm hoping will be enough!) and their track day coverage even with a £1000 excess its better than no insurance at all.

My problem comes with their 'agreed value', previously and with most other insurers i've used before a couple of photos etc.. was sufficient but Mannings require a valuation certificate. Who can provide one of these? They say whoever services the car should be able to provide one but I do that myself.

Any advise greatly appreciated. I'm in the Bristol area if that makes any difference. Thanks, Stu

I am with Sureterm - first year was £160 with 3k mileage. I am 39 (38) at the time I insured my car, and have a clean licence. HTH

Also had a quote from Mannings this week, guy I spoke to didn't think TVRCC do valuations any longer. Like you I do my own servicing and repairs but guess a TVR specialist would do you a valuation for a small fee ? Apart from any cost just the hassle of taking it there if you don't have one on your doorstep I suppose.

He did say however that they do "understand" TVR's and should the worst happen assured me they wouldn't turn round and say "20 yeay old car mate, here's 500 quid"!

That said, I guess if you consider your car is above average condition it would be worth obtaining an agreed valuation ?

Stu, I'm with Classicline and when I renewed my insurance they requested an “agreed value” also.
I went to my local TVR garage who gave me an evaluation. Lots of photos and an evaluation on a headed letter went to the insurer who where happy what I had sent them.

Thanks everyone, i'll give the TVRCC a ring and see if they can advise otherwise looks like i'll have to find a TVR 'specialist' and get something from them. Just need to find a trustworthy TVR garage in the Bristol area!

Getting your agreed value is as important as getting the right insurance cover. Over the years I have valued TVRs for agreed value insurance and even on occasions been asked by insurance engineers to assess pre claim condition/valuation of cars which have not had properly appraised valuations, usually for cars valued on the strength of photographs of highly polished cars which are as rotten as a pear underneath.
The conversation with the "guy from Mannings" is not worth the paper it is written on, his job is to sell you a policy. The engineer who inspects your pride and joy post claim has a different job.... to save the insureres money (whilst trying to be fair to both parties).

Well, TVRCC definately do not provide valuations any more.

I have approached a local specialist car dealer who are willing to do it and are not far away, but suppose I will have to go back to Mannings and check if they need a more TVR specific company.

Well looks like I'll be insuring with Lancaster, £155 for three drivers and limited to 3000 miles a year. Their quote was about the same as Hagerty were last year and about £50 cheaper than Mannings have quoted. They only require photos for the agreed value too so it saves the hassle.
Okay, there is no track day cover but to be honest that is likely to be a very small part of my 'S' driving so seems a no brainer.

Thanks to you all for the advise as always. Stu
