Bolt for space saver wheel in the boot

Does anyone know where I could obtain the correct bolt to secure the space saver wheel in the boot ? My car never came with the bolt and I have been told that it originally had an unusual handle to it. Not the biggest deal in the world but if I can find one it would be great.

It's a wheel stud I think. I can do you a photo tomorrow or if you're local (M25 J20) you can come and have a look. If it is just a wheel stud a breakers might be a good bet.

Its a bit longer than a normal stud I think... mine looks like a wheel nut which has a length of threaded studding welded in place.

If I can find it (I dont normally carry a spare anyway) I'll photo it on friday when I get home

That's what mines got; manky rubber strap with a rusty buckle which has no obvious place to secure it too. I've ditched the spare & now just carry a can of Holts.

+1 looks like the stud is screwed into a "spare" wheel nut then a hole drilled and a roll pin knocked through to stop it coming undone, making it into a bolt in effect.

Ahh that explains it. I use to carry a can of that until it exploded in the boot!

Boot is now waterproof though

Thanks for this guys. Any photos of the original bolt would be gratefully received, and an idea of where to get one also.

Have you got the threaded insert in the boot to screw it into?
Left hand side sticking out right on the corner of the 'ledge' if that makes sense

You can just see the roll-pin through the nut-head (not welded as I first thought)

Paint it white... its easy to see in these pictures but not so easy behind a spare in poor light and can be fiddly (worse when its raining I find )

but wouldn't you be putting the punctured full size wheel back in the boot and I thought the whole "discussion" between space saver or aerosol stuff was full size won't fit back in boot ????


Anyway, thread on mine (and photo) looks like 12mm x 1.25 standard wheel nut/stud thread

I contacted Speedshack and they came back with a load of questions. Can anyone help with the following questions ?!!

You could be right... I've never tried to put a full size wheel in the boot TBH. I normally carry a can for reasons of space but have recently begun to carry the spare again (haven't even fitted the bolt discussed here but might now that I've found it again.
I remember fiddling on for ages trying to hit the nut with the stud and painted the nut white so I could see it in the gloom.

the arguement FOR carrying the spare is a sidewall puncture/split that could not be plugged by the sealant would leave me stranded (and I'm not sure if the RAC would charge for recovery if I chose not to carry a spare when its standard for the car ????)

As Norman says, if you do need to put a full size in the boot then fully deflate it and that might make the difference... havent tried that either (yet )
