In corners and long curves I have noticed the car goes from important understeer to close to oversteer in the blick of an eye. It is not really bothering except in the wet where the phenomenon sometimes threats to throw me in the bushes, even at reasonable speeds.
In the dry actually it can even get trickier because you can hardly feel when the understeer/oversteer switch may happen: because so narrow the range of 'proper' steering is, it's pretty annoying to get to steer properly, as even when steering properly, it feels oversteery...
You follow me?

Any comments on this would much appreciated; this thing starts to make me wonder if the car hasn't suffered from any bad crash in its previous ownership. When it was MOTd the steering geometry was excellent though, and I've never hit the pavement or anything else that may have deterred the front suspension...

If your tyres are worn this can make the handling far more abrupt, especially in the wet. Also worth checking tyre pressure.

Cheers,

The tyres are near from new and I check their pressure before each drive...If it had been as simple I wouldn't have bothered asking it here
Anyway thank you for your reply!

Thom, if I were you I'd check the obvious (ie suspension geometery, tyre pressures, tyre wear) and if symptoms persist I would recommend the 944 Turbo SE front and rear rims, which are a bit wider (I think 255 at back). I had my Turbo on the earlier 235 or 225 rubber (can't remember, but quite skinny) and it was a liability in the dry and an even bigger one in the wet! Oversteer on trailing throttle in dry, etc.

Porsche, oversteer? Maybe the engines in the wrong end!

It's worth checking for play in the front suspension or worn suspension bushes. Also check power steering fluid system for low level or leaks. Both of these have happened to my 928s and gave somewhat vague steering, with sudden twitches from time to time.

Thank you gentlemen, I'll have a look at the steering fluid then...
