Which woods would you recommend for decking? I prefer light-coloured wood (ie Not reddish), and want something which will age naturally and not need treatment.

And where would you buy it in the south, Herts Bucks Berkshire or NW London?

Thanks.

Cedar is beautiful and will go silver once down for a while and when wet goes a beautiful dark brown. VERY expensive for decking though at around £60 per m2

Makes normal decking look like old pallets lol.

Bit premature to advise, but we're just putting c50m2 of composite decking (solid, not hollow stuff) down and were very surprised at how economical it was - not much more expensive than softwood and waaay cheaper than hardwood.

Looks good (really), maintenance free, 25 year guarantee. Worth a look.

I don't think I know of a wood that doesn;t require looking after. We have Ipe and have to clean and re-oil at least twice a year.

Does anyone know a website which shows weather-aged wood, I had a look but couldn't find a simple way to compare how they will age? I like the idea of oak, but not sure about using stainless screws, do I trust galvanic coating?
