Which is more reliable?

I've avoided looking for a Cerbera 'cos I've read a lot of stuff on the net that seems to say that they are less reliable than Chims.
Also I guess that if a Cerb goes wrong (especially the engine) then it'll cost a fortune to fix compared to a Chim 'cos the bits aren't Rover.
Am I right in my assumptions in which case I'll carry on looking at Chims .. or am I completely off track in which case I'll look for both as the Cerb has the +2 seats which would come in handy.

You're not far wrong. A reliable chim is cheaper than a reliable cerb to run. Major work on a chim is cheaper than comparable major work on a cerb.

The two cars are totally different though - so buying on affordability seems like the wrong place to start.

A cerb is a supercar slaying rocket ship with looks to kill.
The chim is a much softer car, with a lazier yank derived engine. It is styled in a traditional british sports car style of the 1960's.

The cerb is also styled in the 60's (the 2060's).

One is a coupe. One is a convertible.

One is quite fast the other is exceptionally rapid.

One is a car to lust after.....

And glad that today I was in the Chimaera burbling around with the roof down enjoying the low down torque and generally cruising around. Felt off to have no roof hugging my head.


As Gazza says, 2 very different animals and the Chimaera is plenty fast enough for most other cars to be well beaten. But you can't compare them and probably need to take a while thinking about what your needs are. IMO the Chimaera is a great starter car, not sure I'd be writing this if I'd hopped straight in to a Cerbera - not the cars fault, more my heavy right foot.

I've been lucky with the Chimaera in the running costs dept. but went in to Cerbera ownership eyes wide open, they need a bit more I think. Servicing of the two is not a million miles off but I'd imagine like for like general work would be suitably more expensive for a vasty superior car mechanically.

I am seriously looking at a Cerbera and would appreciate any advice on which engine to go for.
I've had 4.0 in a Chim, and the S6 in a Tam then a T350c. The Red Rose S6 went like stink, and none of the 3 were slow.
For reliability rather than sheer grunt, what would be the best choice??

The V8 Cerbs are generally considered more reliable, but there has been an awful lot of work done by the independents to resolve certain difficulties with the SP6 engine. You will, as ever, here good and bad from both sides.

It's the ancillaries not the engines that impact reliability in the main. IMHO
if u like s6 engines then get a s6 cerb. They are good value. The post 05 (rebuilt) engines are much stronger but the imperical evidence on the other hand...?
