EVO Metcalfe Griff that will hurt the bank!

Got EVO this morning and was doing a quick flick and stopped in my tracks by Harry Metcalfe Griff engine failure.

That will hurt the bank to fix, new block, cam, big & main bearings + lots more.

Still nice plug for Heath & Paul at X Works.

Hey, he spelt Chimaera correctly, which is more than most owners manage...

Last month power lap against the MX5 Roger Green heard a knocking and kept on driving it.

Engines in bits did not like oil with bits of cam lobes having holes appear in them, then little bits of metal running round the engine. Ouch it hurts ....

Well he isn't short of a few quid, so I doubt the bill will be much of a worry

Podie yeh its fixed now. I know I need glasses, still not bad for a mobile phone post on a small screen.

True, but a popular magazine has shown that TVR engines blow up...

TVR engines do blow up as they do with other marques. Everyone already knows this.

I suspect with this one that they heard it knocking but rather than stop and trailer it to a garage they elected to take the risk and carry on drive it so as to complete the magazine article.

I wonder if its still under a warranty from the dealer he bought it from (was it TVR Mads?)?

Any engine will blow-up if you seriously mistreat it. I'm surprised that staff on what purports to be a performance car magazine did such a stupid thing. I trust Metcalf will have the offender write out "I must not be such a knob" 100 times and publish it in the letters page next month.

I would've thought that any warranty claim would be invalidated by driving the car whilst an obvious knocking noise was coming from the engine.... and I bet they didn't even ease up.

Sounds like a dropped liner - that wrecks the block
and makes that kind of noise - a bit like a tappet.

I haven't seen the article but I wander if it was the oil pickup blocked/fallen off

I'd be surprised if it does from Harry's part, from my dealings with him he seems a very fair minded guy and is loving his Griffith.
