Space cadet seeks university place
Discussion
Why would this student not get a university place, given how in demand BA graduates are?

It could be an idiot and whilst his grades won't show it an interview would. Plus he has chosen a subject in which lots of other people choose due to it being very easy.
RE studied at A Level is a joke IMHO.
They don't actually say what the A Levels were. They've not made a distinction between A and AS level. He could have dropped English Lit at AS level which won't look too good.RE studied at A Level is a joke IMHO.
If my memory serves me correctly you shouldn't apply for 6 top flight Universities, you should have one or two on there that are less prestigous as a back up plan. The English A level is half literature and half language, it'll be viewed as having less academic value than either of those subjects would seperately, I would have thought. This is also possibly the case with Drama and Theatre studies. I don't know about Religous Studies, it might be seen as a joke at A level. If he applied for a subject like Enlish Literature I can well see how he was outclassed by many candidates at all of those institutions in the eyes of admissions tutors, he probably should have applied for a subject like Journalism at undergraduate level instead.
Pah. I did maths, physics and chemistry at A-level, I never had any trouble getting into University. If I did A-levels in "crying with a French accent", "cooking a pie without a modern oven" and "Stroking a dog without making a cat jealous" I don't think I would have got in as easy. The 'space cadet' chose to have an easy life by doing joke A-levels and is now living with the consequences.

It's pretty straight-forward...
I've corrected it for him, he probably should have got someone to poof read his personal statement as well.our hero in one of his Amazon reviews said:

In fairness, it does state he is working as admin in the meantime.Anyway, Edinburgh had 1,486 applicants for English Literature this year to which they made 200 offers to put his chances into perspective. AAA at A Level, especially the subjects he did, doesn't make you stand out much. A Scottish student who gets AAAAB a year earlier than him is already doing better according to UCAS - so he's hardly a 'space cadet'.

Case for the prosecution rests m'lud. My son had a summer job in a bank during Uni holidays, doing the admin when people were cashing in ISA's, it was 3 years ago when the Crash was kicking off, so he was very busy.
He sussed out a system that would let him speed up the process, to the extent that when he had to go back to Uni, his boss asked if he would commute 2 hrs each way on Fridays and Saturdays to keep working for him.
My sons classes were changed so he had Uni on Fridays, so he had to give it up.
He was initially replaced by guy with a Masters in Ancient Greek, but he couldn't keep up, so they had to start another person, these jobs were paying £6.50 per hr...............

Sorry, I was using 'space cadet' in the sense of 'what planet does this guy think he is on', the country is going to hell in a handcart, and after studying mickey mouse subjects he expected to walk onto hard to attain courses, then whines about it . Also, even if he did get on his course, how employable would he be at the end of it?anonymous said:

No more unemployable than most graduates probably. Most of the major graduate schemes aren't picky about your subject, they're usually more interested in where it's from and that it's at least a 2.1. They'll teach you everything you need to know themselves (not that they're unimpressed by university courses but simply because they want to teach you the way they do things).Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

te, he does little or no extra curricular activities or he performed badly at interview. Maybe?
at that! Nice one
