I was looking online at rub recipes as I'm smoking a pork shoulder tomorrow, and I discovered something odd.

What we refer to here as "pork shoulder" is called "pork butt" in the USA.

This, despite the fact that it comes from the forelegs of the pig.

So, does this prove for once and for all that Americans don't know their arses from their elbows?

However I always wondered what pork 'butt' was, since the closest thing I think of to pork 'arse' is chump which is tiny.
