Pic Of The Week: Jaguar F-Type
Come on Jaguar, make your new roadster this pretty...
Celebrations from Jaguar fans this week, as the big cat (well, not the big cat - that's just a logo) confirmed that it will finally build a long-awaited rival to the Porsche Boxster.
There are precious few details on the new car, other than the fact that Jaguar is going to build it. But if it looks even one tenth as good as this 'F-Type' concept car from a decade ago then there should be long queues outside Jaguar dealers.
The new roadster will also be joined by a successor to the unloved X-Type and an XF estate, which will no doubt both be lovely cars. But we really want the F-Type, and we want it now.
Until then, this wallpaper will have to suffice...
Normal (1280x1024)
WideScreen (1440x900)
SuperSize (2048x1536)

nice pic, but if the F-Type is to succeed I reckon it needs to look very different. That one is just too much XK, which is well established already. Anything similar looking will confuse Jo Public and make the F just appear as a "poor mans" XK.
Didn't hurt Porsche and their poor man's 911...FrankCayman said:
The last two cars they have knocked out have been fuging ugly, so I don't hold out much hope
You are Dr Doolittle and you love your-push-me-pull you and AICM£5, fair enough for the oppinion. I think you'll be fairly isolated with that oppinion of Jag's current design direction tho'. To be Frank.Edited by FWDRacer on Friday 16th July 12:48

And while the new XJ has presence, it sure ain't pretty or elegant like its fore-bearers.
XK on the other hand is good. Not as good looking as the original XK maybe, but still way above anything offered by rivals (bar Aston).
But hay ho, maybe its just me??
Stunning looks, however if scintilating performance and handling is going to happen it must be much smaller and lighter than XK.
For porsche boxster rivaling / beating package it must also be sub £50k with a nicely tuned version of their V6.
I suspect if they make the car big enough to accept the V8 SC they have made the car too big / heavy and it will be another GT!
Unfortuantely I cannot see todays Jaguar creating a proper lightweight sports car, although I would love to be proven totally wrong.

Here is an old shot I took years ago at Meadowbrook.........
nice, but I'm willing to bet much of the detailed design (the stuff that makes it look good) won't ever make it to production. Most car makers suffer with leaky softtops even when simple, let alone some odd shaped fancy windscreen edge to cope with too.Edited by RDMcG on Friday 16th July 13:12

You cany be real, Jag make sexy cars. Fact! The Cayman is the best looking Porsche, but only because the others are so frigging ugly.

(ps. I like the Panamera!!!!)
I think the new Jag should strike out on its own, make a 4 seater coupe with a convertibale option, about 370Z sized, FR layout with a V6 and maybe a supercharged option...nice sleak mid sized coupe...with an LSD about 350bhp..but a proper 4 seater.
Where have all the 4 seater coupes gone?

[/quote]No I'd agree. I'm a huge Jag fan, but the XF, while ok, just looks like some slick, up their own arses city

I find that design so very pure and simple, so it can't be ugly really!
But perhaps is it much too simple for a Jag? As one has to admit they have always been a bit old-fashioned, which is most probably why they have so much charm.
Charm but not real beauty.
Anyhow so few cars are perfect, if any!
And I agree that somehow Aston Martin has always made beautiful cars,(apart from the Vanquish which is rather out of proportion somehow; much much too thick and odd at the rear - nearly German-looking!).
A Jag might be my next car. (an Aston is a bit out of reach!)
