One wiper not working - is it the wiper motor?

Hi all,

During a very heavy downpour the driver's side wiper stopped working. The other one works though. I know wiper motors often fail so could it be that or is there one motor that drives both wipers?

Any ideas about what it could be and what I can do about it would be greatly appreciated.

One for both, surely? Left hand side, just under the bonnet, near the windscreen.

One motor will drive both wipers. The motor drives one wiper via a linkage. A second linkage from the first wiper drives the other wiper.

If one wiper still works, it's therefore not the motor, it's either the link rod between the two wipers, OR (check this first!) one wiper has come loose on its spindle. Flick up the little cover over the spindle, and there will be a nut holding the wiper arm onto the spindle. Make sure it's tight. Make sure the wipers are in "parked" position before you tighten it!
