The man responsible for the Selby rail disaster is being sued for more than £11 million in a High Court action by Railtrack.

...

The Railtrack writ claims he acted "negligently" by driving when he had no sleep the previous night. The company is seeking compensation for damage and lost business.
WTF????

If they win, that's another 20quid a year we'll all be paying on our insurance so that Lloyds can recoup their loss..

Be fair. It's unlikely to have been their decision. I'd bet that came from the board.

Some of whom are probably lawyers and are about to proceed thru a door being held open for them by beckoning lawyers..

More like "The Accident Group" phoned them up and told them they'd handle the claim for about 40%

As long as I can recoup some of my lost investment, then chuck the book at him, I say.

Disgruntled shareholder of Northamptonshire.

The author stupidly bought a pile of now worthless Baltimore Technology shares at the same time

Aren't Railtrack in the hands of the receivers thanks to that Byers? This must be the receivers trying to get as much money in the coffers to pay themselves their own fat fee.

Ah yes, the film in which Alan Rickman played Alan Rickman, as opposed to all the other firms where he plays Alan Rickman.

Still one of my favourite actors though.

Nor am I, old chap - sorry, tongue firmly inside cheek. It was a gamble at the time, which didn't pay off. Shares - it's a mugs game. Particularly when you've got idiots like Byers in the equation.

They'd probably be better off suing the board for complete muppetry - at leat that'd be an open and shut case

That'll be the average motorist paying up and taking it up the arse again, rather than harming the dividends.

Lawyers only use the rules to get the best result for their clients. Blame (some) judges, governments and people who think that they are not responsible for their own stupidity for rampant litigation.

Besides there are some lawyers who design bits of cars....

On the same lines then, can he sue

A: The Internet ISP who let him stay on line for ages
B: The Highways Agency for Not having sufficient barriers
C: The train driver for getting in the way

good point my friend ! better barriers WOULD have stopped this disaster. Then again, build the railway further from the road, and it wouldn't have happened either...
