Xbox 360 transfer cable - how does it work?

Hi

My xbox has died and I have thus ordered the new Xbox slim (far better value than getting the old one repaired, honest!). How does the transfer kit work?

Does my old xbox need to be functioning to get the data off the HD or do you remove the HD from the old console and plug it into the new one via the cable?

IIRC, the cable plugs into the new Xbox via USB and you attach your old HD to the other end. Comes with a disc which will guide you through the process.

The disc is not needed anymore as the transfer software is built into the Xbox now.
