I can't help feeling that the IPCC will try to get this out of the way quickly, but being in the town and [apparently] caught on camera walking through it, will bring a harsh and unwelcome light on the matter.

I think the biggest fear is the man becoming something of a legendary figure, the whole affair with Gazza at or around the final scene has all the stuff of legend right there in spades.

Will the internet turn him into a hero?

There would appear to be that risk, wouldn't there?

He's no hero of mine. Just some bloke who got jealous and murdered somebody, then shot himself.

Meh.

Well after costing us so much in prison and then search fees at least he did the honourable thing, I wonder how much we would have wasted on a court case and another 30 years inside.

You all make good points but I think a few of you stayed in last night and watched this and posted on the threads here, all live.

Your reasons are your own but he has made a huge impact and it is very hard not to admire his audacity and it is audacity that is the 'stuff' of anti-hero status.

Admire? Shot an unarmed copper whilst with his mates, hid out for days and then topped himself, hopefully falling in a pool of his own piss having had guns pointed at him. Admire might not be quite the word..

Admire the audacity of being right in the town and [possibly] walking about? If that is not audacious then tell what is!

Do you mean An hero?

What lessons can we learn from this? Next time something like this happens, instead of fking about for 6 hours and having pissed up footballers turn up making the police look like fking fools, just shoot the , screw negotiating with him he has killed and maimed people, he should have no rights as a living being, and should be shot, he can't explain or justify the killings , a sniper should have just taken the head shot there and then, I would of just kicked the body into the river and let the animals have it and gone for dinner or supper.

What's to admire though? Audacity? I wouldn't call it audacity. He simply ran out of ideas on where to go. This is just some st that happened which had a bit of a Gazza comedy angle.

I think the biggest lesson is not to let Gazza out when he's been drinking.

I would admire people working behind enemy lines in WWII, not someone mentally unbalanced where the outcome of getting caught is a stand off and a nice padded cell if you put your hands up.

I don't think it was audacity, piteous would be a better word to describe his actions. He quickly found himself very alone, haunted by the images of those he shot, scared and sleepless wondering what the feeling of bullets ripping into him would be like.

Had he wanted to go on a killing spree, he'd have left the area and or taken out a lot more people, he had the opportunity after all. I suspect he stayed in the area and got out and about not believing how long it was all taking.

For all his big plan and media hype, it was the shame of his missus doing someone else that drove him to this. The same reason he topped himself, feer of the loss of face. Uncanny really, as in the end he probable did lose a bit face.

I sincerely hope not. To be filed under the following: sad, loser, desperate, insecure, vindictive, gunman, murderer.

Crippen was not guilty as charged.
