According to my May edition of "Car & Driver" magazine...

The 2005 Jaguar F-Type will:
- be 2650 lbs (130 lbs less than the Boxter)
- use a mid-engined AJV6 with 6 speed at 250 horsepower
- will NOT share chassis with the AM305 (baby aston)

Also mentioned was a supercharged "R" version due out shortly after launch that will put out in excess of 300 horsepower and be available in the US for "just under $ 50,000".

A direct quote from Wolfgang Reitzle (Head of the Premier Auto Group):
"It will be head on with the Boxter in performance, price, everything. The F-type is a unique, uncompromising super Jaguar, which will surprise you as it is a little different from what most people expect. Porsche can't have this sector of the market to itself forever."

I'm working on getting the latest computer image of the F-type loaded so that I can post it, however at a recent car show that I was at, I spoke with one of my Jaguar people and she confirmed that she had seen (and sat in) the latest prototype and it was indeed going for a mid-engined design...

Cheers

Only a couple of weeks ago you were asking where we had got the info that it was to be a mid engined car You should learn to trust us a bit Ernest Still like to see the images though - bet it's a slab sided lump of car with a tail that looks like a barge, sorry to put a downer on it but the prototype was such a stunner seems a shame they can't just build it! Rich...

Well, here is the only one I could get - due to my rotten little scanner at work...

Oh and I trust everyone on Pistonheads, that's why I asked for the advice about my new company car. Also, after reading the article, they do make a good case for changing the design somewhat from the prototype... Not that I wouldn't mind if they made it - mind you

Will see if I can post some more details from the article soon, but here is the pic...

A nice shapely rear end (we're back to the Kylie Ka again!!!)

I have full faith in Ian Callum (the designer). Anyone that can come up with the DB7, Vanquish and Jag R Coupe is a top chap in my book.

Still wish it wasn't mid-engined though....:-(

This is just conjecture on my part based on price differences in S-type and S-type R, the target market (boxter), and the estimated price of the F-type R, but I would say target price about $ 39,500.

Well one is likely to be a driver's car and the other one is a BMW.
