I found out today that my 4 year old sony minidv camcorder has conked out. somesort of odd error code that despite the best efforts of the internet I haven't managed to reset. I dont often use the camcorder these days - my panasonic still camera does a good enough job mainly. my problem is that I now have a drawer full of tapes with various family events from the last few years, unedited and not copied into any other format as I haven't had time to edit them down. Any tips as to how i can get out of this one, without buying another minidv machine.

Buy a s/h one on eBay, transfer your tapes and then resell it...?

Take them into jessops and get bent over, £22 for the first hour and £14 for every hour there after.
Or buy an old used camera, av cable or player and dvd recorder. And do it yourself.

I work for Jessops

what he said.

there's hundreds of very cheap dv cameras floating around on ebay, since a lot of people are buying tapeless or hd camcorders.

If you want really cheap, lookout for one with a broken lens or screen- as long as the tape deck and firewire or usb ports are intact and working, then bob is most certainly your uncle.
