I have a palm tree at the end of my front garden that has clearly been adversely affected by the cold with all of the leaves at the top turning brown and falling off. Clearly it's died, although there is a shoot at the base...

Question is, what's the best thing to do with it now. Dig it up, cut it close to the base ? Can I salvage this new shoot and start a new baby one and if so how ?

oh - and I think it is called a Cordyline ?

Same here in Perthshire. That last final very cold snap has damaged ALOT of plants, bushes and trees here in the Carse, almost as if the warm spell got the sap rising than Bang frozen over.

We have one here, the same thing has happened twice over the years.

Leave well alone, fresh shoots will grow rapidly from the base and dead growth will fall away.

Each time it has grown with more shoots and looks healthier despite our concerns.

Cold snap? I checked your profile to ee if you live in NZ! Bloody heatwave here!

Cordyline - lower leaves will go brown and fall off, this is normal. Side-sprouts, also normal. If it's really all dead above the side-sprout, I'd cut it about 6" above and let the new growth take over.
