Actually I look for photographic gear and guitars more than anything on ebay and I'm looking to buy a guitar from the US (that $ rate is so tempting) but I'm being mega-cautious, only really looking fron "new" or "new old stock" from traders with a really good history and profile.
Call me sceptical but there are so many scams even on UK ebay where cameras are on sale for incredible prices and the sellers actually reckon you can get away without paying duty from the US (I never have got away with it with parts, yet...)
I honestly don't know why they bother with car scams. The idea of buying a car without seeing it is unbelievable. Even if I was buying a new Z06 I'd want to go to the US for peace of mind.
I think some of these guys just get some nice car photos and try it on.
P.S. If you want a C6 I've got a 2005 Z07 800HP edition (ex Starsky & Hutch) for $5,000, be quick, owner leaving country, no tyre kickers, not for the faint hearted, serious bidders only, shopper edition...

One small thing (actually a couple of small things) to be careful of when buying stuff online in the US are:
If you buy from a store, you'll also pay VAT on the shipping, which'll add to the cost. Don't know what effect insurance has. For the most part you're best off mailing it to a friend's address in the US and then either forwarding as a used gift or collecting it yourself.
More importantly, I once tried to buy a vintage guitar online, based on the description of it being 'near perfect' and the photos on the website etc I gave them my card number, which they ran. They then got back to me to say that actually, it had some marks on it. The 'marks' were so huge (and weren't on the website photos) that I told them that I didn't want it after all. The store said that it was fine and refunded the money to my card. Unfortunately, when you buy and sell (or get a refund) the exchange rate differential can be significant. £300 in this case. I had to fight for months to get the money back as the store should have done a 'reversal' not a 'refund' (apparently).
An extremely boring cautionary tale!!!
