29 MPG!

Hi all,

I spent the weekend climbing Snowdown in Wales, and just got back and worked out that my S3 managed 29MPG on the way home which has really surprised me! We certainly didn't hang about on the A5 and kept a healthy motorway speed all the way home.

We're always paranoid that we'll run out of fuel as it seems to be quite thirsty (and I hear the fuel gauges are a little 'optimistic'), but we filled up at Betwys-Coed and then again in Twickenham and worked out that it took 35 litres of fuel. Not bad for a 20 year old V6 I thought!

600 miles done this weekend and the car never missed a beat - it was well worth the 4 hours of heat, noise and vibration that is driving an S3 on the motorway on the hottest day of the year

Hi Anders, 29mpg seems quite reasonable, it sounds as though you had a good time in North Wales. I did the Snowdon run a couple of years ago, some superb roads too. I parked up in the large car park opposite the snowdon railway and the attendant promised to keep a special eye on the S, bless him. The run back to South Wales was via the Brecon Beacons, tremendous is all I can say, the roads were nearly empty. I must do it again sometime

That sounds about right really, last yeasr I did a 430 mile round trip (motorway) in my S and got 33 mpg, I got this figure by measuring the useage brim to brim that is the only true way to calculate the mpg. I recently refurbished my fuel tank and when I refitted it to the car it was bone dry, I put 2 gallons of fuel in and the fuel gauge didn't register at all so I now know how far I can go before refuelling.
