RML to race in complete FIA GT series
Ray Mallock Limited (RML) have confirmed today that its sportscar division will enter the entire 2004 FIA GT Championship with Miguel Ramos and Chris Goodwin teaming up alongside Tommy Erdos and Mike Newton in a pair of Saleen S7R’s.
Both Ramos and Goodwin have extensive knowledge of the Saleen S7R having raced the car in the FIA GT Championship and European Le Mans Series respectively.
RML Managing Director Ray Mallock commented “The testing times from Monza underline the pace of the Saleen and we are looking forward to a very competitive season. Both RML cars now have strong driver line ups, who can work together as a team to get the best from each event ”.
RML’s 4,300 square metre facility is based in Northamptonshire and includes full design, development, manufacturing and operational support for international race/rally programmes and automotive engineering projects.
The organisation has achieved championship success in a diverse range of motorsport categories including GT/sportscars, touring cars, rally cars, single seaters and oval speedway cars. In 2004 RML teams will compete in the FIA GT Championship, British Touring Car Championship, Le Mans Endurance Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Chris Goodwin
In his role as McLaren Cars Chief Test Driver Chris has spent much of the last three years developing the new McLaren Mercedes SLR road car to the expense of a regular race seat. Now the bulk of the road car work is completed Chris can return to full time racing with the team and car in which he helped secure the 2001 ELMS title. Chris commented “I am looking forward to racing in the FIA GT Championship and to emulating the success of the last RML run Saleen programme. The car is obviously very fast and with RML’s reliability record I believe we have a great opportunity in 2004”.
Miguel Ramos
Miguel is looking to cast aside all memories of his disappointing 2003 season as he re-joins the team who introduced him to the S7R back in 2002. Miguel commented “Having driven the S7R for the last two years at Le Mans, in FIA GT and to secure the 2002 Spanish GT Championship I know the potential of the Saleen package. Now the car is back in the hands of its original creators I believe we can unlock some of this potential and challenge for race wins, I am looking forward to a successful 2004”.
