I have watched a few replays now comparing what I do with others such as Curry, Idle, GT kodiak, Forza etc. Without fail you all can brake far later than me, and are therefore quicker. Last night on the entry to the corkscrew for example, a 120ft plus cap to Kodiak went in a flash under braking.
Same also on the Focus champs and even in the tuners champ.

I use ABS as I have found it hard to race in a pack without it, on a few occasions, I have locked up by accident and hit innocent drivers, and I do not want to do that again.

But I know a few of you race with ABS, such as Curry, but man, if I use your braking points, which I did last night after saving the replay when Idle you and myself had a quick few laps, I skate off the track. Without fail, is it because I use the pad rather than wheel and pedals? I am manual with all assists turned off bar ABS. I try to use the gears to help me slow, but that still leaves me with all sorts off issues re corner entry.

Now I know we all do it for fun, but if anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated, as at present I am as tough as fairies to pass, and I am sure it would make for better racing.

Without wishing to denigrate anybody's driving skill, maybe this is to do with car set up?

You will brake harder, and therefore later, if you can brake without engaging the ABS....

The cars are all forced stock or identical tunes. hence why I can compare like for like.

With my own tuned cars I run the brakes at lower % to try and allow me full braking without the ABS kicking in.

But with stock cars I cannot tune the braking, but despite 100s of test laps, I cannot mimic the braking traits of the other guys in stock cars. Hence me wondering if I am doing something wrong?

What is your braking style? Are you full on the anchors or ease on/off?

Reason I ask is, as anyone who has followed me into a bend will vouch, the king of standing on them and using ABS to the full, which isn't always the best move, as despite ABS it won't let you turn in as well under braking.

I do brake too early as I had the same problem, but have found braking later, not so forceful and coming off quickly to drive the bend is slowly working for me. Is taking lots and lots of practice and still goes tits up 90% of the time frown

I must admit I am a full on the anchors type, I always thought that was the best way. Big hit, off and turn, although what happens a lot, is that I start my turning in with the brakes still on. Which I guess is a no no.

But with the ease on and off, surely that leaves you vulnerable to being out braked?

I agree also I suppose I really need to kick the ABS habit, although plenty of drivers are verry quick with it.

Sideways, if you look closely at my style, I brake early, off the brakes and on the power. I always go apex hunting, it's just my style.

Also through some corners, I just tap the brake as you go through. eg tap the brake, turn in, tap the brake again, steer out of the corner and then only once sure flatten the throttle, none of this on/off/on/off thing I see some people doing.

All in all, it's practice. Oh and you can turn in using ABS, it just takes practice.

Irrelevant if it's someone elses corner and they are already on the apex wink

Everyone knows there Curry's lines and no one elses, he will not be held responsible if you hold the racing line!

I actually do the opposite and increase pressure to 105 - 110% as I seem to get a better feel with this, I do use the wheel/pedals though, I can't brake for toffee with a controller!

Cheers guys plenty to ponder.

I think I will try some lapping tonight in stock cars and see if i can start to develop the early brake and turn in technique.

I am guilty of the constant on off curry mentions, so will try and be more progressive too.

Got no money or space for wheel and pedals set, so will have to make do with the pad.

I now know about the Curry line too ha ha

Yeah, I had you banged to rights pre-corkscrew... wink

Guess who I learned that from...?

Yup, that's right... Clarkson hehe (And you thought I was going to say Idle/Curry/Etc... tongue out)

As for other corners:

I don't use ABS,
I do use a Pad,
I do use the Clutch.

Braking style:

ABS on, Anchors on full. Still a little on the brakes while heading for the apex if needs be.

I've not paid much attention to braking %, but find alot can be gained/lost in the F/R balance.

Sorry Sidewayz i'm crap at giving advice, but i'll try... When I first started driving I had ABS on, but now run with it off and all aids off, running with a wireless controller. I normally try and get some practice in and work out where I can brake latest. I hit them as hard as I can without locking, and when you're on the verge of locking without ABS you get a very slight vibration through the controller, usually about 2/3rds to 3/4rs of the trigger pressed in depending on what you're driving. Then I tend to coast to the apex and feed the power in, or front wheel drive trail brake to the apex to keep the front in and then feed the power in. Sorry if that was useless getmecoat

All ABS does is stop you locking up - it very quickly 'pumps' the brakes once it engages, so if you can brake without engaging it the braking distance will be shorter. Are you using pedals or controller?
