Ashdown Forest - deer warning.

After a weekend at Castle Combe and a quick deviation to visit my father I was driving Kent-bound spiritedly (but legally) through Ashdown Forest. Just past "Munich Legends" a very large deer appeared from (seemingly) nowhere and launched a kamikaze attack on the front of my Golf GTI. I had no time to react and the result was a very bent piece of German plastic/metal, a scattering of venison steaks and a very shaken me.

Why post a story about a deer and a VW Golf on a TVR forum ? Well - I should have been in the S3C but it was over at Powerspeed having the exhaust sorted. If I had been in the "S" I'm sure I'd be posting this from a hospital bed (at best).

I've done a bit of research since and apparently there has been an epidemic of deer strikes (often with serious/fatal consequences) in the Forest Row/Wych Cross area of Ashdown Forest in the last few years.

Believe me, however good a driver you may consider yourself to be, you will have no chance when one of these things takes a leap at you. So if the Ashdown Forest area is on your driving radar - take it very easy.

I know exactly where you mean. Had the same in my euro boxes over the years but never in a TVR....must be the noise

Don't forget where there is one deer there are usually another 2 or 3 that will try and cross within seconds.....irrespective of what is coming towards them
