I quite like the M20. It is very fast. What's wrong with it?

+1

It's a far nicer drive than (for example) the M1, with lighter traffic than most of the main routes out of London.

Although I'll grant you - when it goes wrong, it does go very wrong.

The condition of the road surface... I know my car has hard suspension but it has to be the worst motorway I have ever driven on.

Plenty of alternate routes if you're not in a hurry

Up Detling Hill and then M2 and A2, or pick up the A20 at Jnct8 to avoid the worst noisy concrete bits, but that will take you through Ashford centre

It's a lot faster getting up to the '25 from my neck o'the woods via the M20 than A2/M2/A249(Detling Hill)/M20/M26...one long fast road. Not the most interesting, bit like the M40 really.

Good apart from when Optn Stack happens, and/or the myriad of foreign tr(f)uckers decide to try and overtake with 0.5mph speed differential....for 3miles...uphill.

I like the M20 - once east of Maidstone it's a good fast
(for UK) road until the Tunnel.

I was on Detling hill today - a lorry driver decided it
would be a good idea to overtake his mate while ascending the hill.

Also, I notice the "They shall not overtake" club were
out in force today around Faversham on the M2.

One particularly stupid driver got undertaken by three different
vehicles and *still* didn't have enough driving skill to pull in
and let faster traffic pass.

I don't like driving in Kent very much.

Are you trying to say those issues are all unique to Kent?

Hi guys sorry if this is a random topic I'm new to pistons head. Just wondering was driving form ashford to maidstone and from maidstone to ashford. i kept on driving past cameras on the gantries they are not painted nor are there warning signs. just wondering what the heck they are? are they active only when there are variable speed limits or are they speed cameras active all the time? and i may have been driving quite fast. slightly worried haven't seen flashes nor received NIP its been 7 days... can someone helpful kindly help me out here? ( I'm rarely drive on m20 hence me being paranoid hope you all understand.)

The section from J4 to J7 has Gatso cameras and those newer ones mounted sticking out off the gantry. All live at all times with or without speed restrictions. I've gone through at 70mph and had people overtaking me at 75-80mph and they have been flashed. Seen loads of flashes from both sets and have plenty of colleagues taking days off to attend speed awareness courses.
