New S2 owner - how to store the roof in the boot

This is a very basic question, but can you tell me how the two roof panels are supposed to be stored in the boot? I am concerned that if they are now stowed correctly, I will damage them. Many thanks

had mine for nearly 4 years and today noticed jaye r puts his in better than me
he puts the passenger side in 1st curved bit down then drivers side the same more room than the way i do

drivers 1st curve to top then pass side the same

each to there own never asked

Hi TrevorTVR and welcome to the forum...

Like Jaye and now Tinks, I store the passenger side first front side up, You need to ensure the boot well is empty so you can get the panel in deep before slipping under the boot seal or you will damage the seal. put the panels in bags too, or put a blanket or something between then to prevent scuffing. If you have the hydraulic boot strut you need to keep the panels well away from it or risk the boot lid sticking shut

Some of us no longer carry a spare, carrying the tyreseal type cannister instead and that gives much more room for your roof panels, others are looking at an alternative roof altogether... but thats another story

There is another way...

I put the driver's side panel in first, because it comes off the car first, like this:



Then a towel to stop them rubbing, especially the latch on the passenger side panel against the outside of the other panel, then the passenger side panel like this:



It works on the cars with the gas strut lifter on the RHS - don't know about the models with the earlier arrangement. Just be careful you don't jam the strut on the panel edges. I gained a little extra space by moving the strut to the offside of the boot lid bracket, which happens to be just visible in the first picture:



It works for me.

Thanks for the welcome and also your replies.
Can we go to absolute basics to start with-
Are the panels stored horizontally? (I guess they are from the warnings about the lip)
Does the passenger side one go on the boot passenger side and is the drivers side one on top of this or across the boot?

The reason I ask is that I can't get both to fit across and even if I could, there seems no way to get the spacesaver wheel in.

Does anyone has any photo's?

I'm obviously making this a lot more difficult than it really is, but I can't see how it goes together. Any help greatly appreciated

I can't see what all the fuss is about the S having a small boot - plenty of room for a pair of pants in there - thats a weeks camping wardrobe

make sure your space saver wheel is as far to the left as it can go or bolted in
as the photos above your reply the passenger side is always tight
jaye r puts his the opposite to the photo curved bit down

I do mine differently again and am able to get a toolbag with all the bits in it under them. If you take the photo above and turn the panel through 180 degrees but put big panel in first then small the same way up on top of it with the curve to the back of the car then they sit almost flat against the upper ledge of the boot and as I said you can get the jack, tools, a footpump and all sorts of other things in the deep part of the well beneath them and a large bag on top for camping (2 pairs of nicks and 3 socks in response to Chris's comment and I'm a submariner so am renowned for not showering!!!)

As with most things TVR it is what suits you that works - just don't ask about the coolant caps (mine's still on the swirl pot for a trial Ketvrin )

What fuss indeed - There's LOADS of room in an S! One passenger, one large tent, two beds, two sleeping bags, two chairs, cooking equipment, toothbrushes, all fit in very easily alongside the roof:

(I did cheat and leave the spare wheel at home though... )

Yours was smaller than mine graham the tent that is - but I did get the wife to bring mine in the Zafira!!!
