Glove box lock

Hi All

I had to extract my S3 from storage when her indoors Alfa cloverleaf went up in smoke!
The TVR even passed its MOT first time but I had forgotten about some of its novelties when driving - that is the auto open of the glove box when going over bumps. I looked at the lock last night and apart from the key being keyless ( Im sure that doesnt help) the locking device itself seems to be unable to stay clicked in. I looked on the alternate spares site but its not listed - anybody got any ideas what they are or where to get one ? Or is there a wise and cunning proven alternate device ?

TVR Car Parts have new ones for about £15.

Hi David Gerald TVR sell them although mine had a spare key tucked in the steering column fabric. Follow the column down and look for the little pocket, maybe yours has one.

mine started doing that
was going to put some blue tac in the hole the clamp catches on
to see what happens so the clamp sits on the blue tac

Thanks Mike - I think the lock is naff as it doesnt seem to latch in properly - I can pull it out with minimum effort so I think I will get a new unit. Thanks Again Mark

Hello to all,
Reviving this topic for my French friend who only has very limited English. We went for a run in his V8S today, and the glovebox dropped onto my knees every five minutes... He said it had always done that (he's had the car for something like 10 years...) He has a key, but it looked to me as if it's missing the bit with teeth on, so when you push it into the lock it has no grip and doesn't actually lock anything.

Thanks to your posts I have been able to view a new key on the TVRCARPARTS site, and this confirms my hunch that the problems lies with his key.

Which leads me to ask are all the keys the same (i.e. the same pattern to the teeth, or are there hundreds of different combinations (like for some antitheft wheel nuts)?

If the latter, how do I buy the right key for him?

The key lock is also used on older caravan gas lockers and there is,to my knowledge, only one pattern. The lugs wear over time. If you go to a caravan dealer and show them your westco key they should have one. They are not expensive. Some may also have a replacement lock assembly.
