Good entry level cycle shorts

I have been using tights for the cold mornings but the sun is now out and i need some padded shorts. I have been using some old shorts and need to sort new ones out.

Can anyone recommend a good quality in-expensive pair of shorts with padding for road riding.

Ideally i would like to get them by the weekend so in store or online that i can get delivery by weekend.

Sadly good quality and inexpensive don't always go hand in hand when it comes to cycling shorts (from a comfort point of view anyway).

For years I thought shorts are shorts and "made do" with shorts at the cheaper end of the market because I didn't see how shorts could cost £220 or whatever for Assos for a bit of lycra & a pad when you can get the same thing for £35-£40. Now that I've bought a pair of DHB Knowle and a pair of Assos F1 Mille shorts I can see that they are a world apart from the cheaper stuff, especially after an all day ride. DHB are cracking value for money compared to the Assos as you just get the shorts rather than the fancy box, War & Peace sized handbook, chamois cream & washbag. (Yes washbag )

I'd have a look at the different DHB offerings from Wiggle and buy the best you can afford. There are plenty of reviews on their site from previous buyers to give you an idea of what each pair is like.

thank Neil, i was not fussed with Wiggles delivery times, it took several days for them to even process my last order. I have used Chain Reaction in the past and their service was second to none.

Will look at both over lunch but thanks for recommendations.

I agree if you go for the free delivery but whenever I've needed stuff quickly & paid the £3.99 it's come next day.

I've found products by Altura to be good and reasonably priced.

Edit: although with shorts I'd always go to my local bike shop to try a few pairs for fit and comfort.

I was at Lakeside and bought some of these a couple of weeks ago...

I didn't think they would make much difference, but my non bib ones do slip down after time.
