Canon software upgrade. Any problems?

Hi,
Anyone had any problems with upgrading to the latest software from the Canon site? I have a Canon A710 IS and have just learned there is a software upgrade available. I have recently bought a Canon A1100 IS for my wife and it comes with its own software.
I am wary of installing more Canon software for the new camera in case in clashes with the the A710 stuff. I understand that if I upgrade the A710 software to the latest version, then this will allow both cameras to be downloaded safely, though the A1100 IS is not mentioned in the compatibility list on the Canon site
Anyone know for sure?
