The useless shower of sts aka Thomas Cook lost my luggage.
I returned to Bristol airport but my case didn't. I'm aware that mistakes happen and as I was so dog-tired after twenty-some odd hours travelling I couldn't muster the anger. It was reported and I was given a PIR (Property Irregularity Report rolleyes ). About six hours later I received a text message to say it'd been found at Birmingham airport and would be delivered to my work address 'daytime Friday'. It's now 'night time Friday' and still nothing.
In one of my many calls to various parties at Bristol Airport, Thomas Cook and Rapid Air I was told I have no claim as it's a return journey, claims may only be made for outbound journeys. Does anyone know if this is common practise?

no claim for what exactly.

Sounds like rubbish to me, they have failed to get you your luggage.

Are they saying that now they've found it as it is the return journey you have to trek up to Brum to fetch it. If so they really are so so wrong. Or is it for something else?

The devil will be in the details of your t&c though.

Thomas Cook didn't lose your luggage, the airport did. Baggage handlers probably decided to hang on to it for a time to have a check for contraband* or slung it in the wrong pile.

At least it didn't end up here...

  • This does not mean having a rummage for anything small, portable and saleable, oh no.

Clearly, it was the baggage handlers at Rhodes airport who screwed up by putting my case on the wrong fecking plane.
My main concern is it'll be smelly by the time I finally receive it. I had to pack a damp towel and wet trunks amongst other things - in this weather I fear it'll be 'musty' at best. In the meantime I've also had to buy toiletries, contact lenses, etc.
A royal PITA.

To answer the question, yes it is common practice not to be able to claim on the return journey, what loss have you sufferd? You went home and had clothes etc there so you had to buy nothing. On the outward journey it is diffrent you have nothing with you so you need to buy new clothes tolitries etc while the find your lost stuff.

Just treat all checked baggage as disposable, and you'll always be pleasantly surprised if it turns up at your destination at all.
It gives you a happy start on arrival before you have to stand in a queue at immigration because they've only opened 3 desks despite the 6 jumbos that have just arrived, as they do every day, and there's alway some stupid waste of protein in front who's decided to be stupid and not filled out their landing card properly or something.
