Last night I had the pleasure of watching and listening to this start up and drive off, and then I had to follow because the engine note is absolutely glorious. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ny58d7AmY1o

(still is a grab from the video, please excuse the low quality)

Also parked a few cars along:

I had a look at an SLS at the Geneva motorshow in March as I wouldn't mind my next car to be something like this or a California etc, and the major thing for me was quite how hard it was to get the doors down, you have to hoist yourself up to reach the door before pulling it down. But now that I've heard the car running opinions have changed completely, it is quite frankly stunning. The camera didn't capture it as well as it really sounded but the rumble was awesome, a little test drive might be needed at some point wink

What do other people think of the SLS?

Well it's closer to a FMLB than a normal Merc where it will be people buying their used boring cars commenting! And I'm interested in it being compared to the various top-end competitors.

Awesome bit of car stalking there. The more I see the SLS the better it looks to me and what a noise!

Cant get to like the SLS shape at all. Its not a good looking car to me. I think the whole car has clearly been designed around the novelty gull wing doors an this reflects in the awkwardness of the shape.
Sounds bloody great as the safty car in F1 though.

I'd rather have the Range Rover behind it. The Merc SLS does nothing for me on the looks front. Looks like an inflated Chrysler Crossfire.

Hideous. Looks like the lovechild of an SL and Chrysler Crossfire.

Do you ever get grief from the owners of the various cars you have stalked?

Looks great, but I thought filming inside the car was a bit much? fair 'nuff when its a dealer car but when its parked in the street?

(not meant as a dig, as I do like seeing the exotica, just feel there are lines to this)

I never replied to the above, and the answer is no, most people who have cars flashy enough to be tempted to follow actually enjoy the attention and some have even asked for more videos in the future! I've never once had a bad word yet.

Just to add to this thread though, this crazy matt purple SLS is driving around London at the moment.

Stills are taken from the video uploaded here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUoqZEaFaiU

It belongs to the Khalifa family (it's their crest on the plate), who are from Qatar; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khalifa_bin_Hamad_Al_... (*I think!*)

Save for some miraculous reason there are two of them, you did indeed! "Here's one I took earlier":

This afternoon there were 3 Murci SVs and 2 Veyrons running around on Arabic number plates, on top of the SLS, a yellow 458 Italia, and a lot more.

That would be a yes! biggrin
