Hi peeps

Quick question for the ph massive!

Has anyone else had this strange problem.

I have elements 6 installed and it used to work fine. I changed pc's a while back and really have not done much on the photography front. I have started again now but i had an issue with elements. I can download jpg files no problem. when trying to put raw files in the organiser it kept throwing a wobbley and stated "file corrupt or incompatable file type" which i thought was a bit strange. i first thought my card was buggered but its brand new (but you never know). since then i have tried various cards and various file types (jpeg, raw, raw with basic) and it can not download raw files it just goes silly. it gets half way bombs out with icons of split photograph as opposed to the egg timer icon

After a bit of perusing the intoweb i have found a solution. now its a bit weird but basically i had to create a shortcut on the desktop with the following command line in

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start /affinity 1 "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"

This apparantly stops the machine working on all cores and limits it to one.

This is where the problem lies. According to the info i found elements does not like working with raw files on multiple core machine

Has anyone else had this problem i now use the shortcut to gain access to the organiser in elements and its all fine can down load what i want in what ever file type

just found this a bit strange

any thought

Hmm, does sound like a threading issue.

By the look at your program files path name I'm guessing your on win7 64 / Vista 64?
You could try right clicking on the normal shortcut -> properties -> Compatibility, then enable compatibility for XP.

If not then your affinity setting shortcut seems like a reasnoable workaround, you could also try setting the affinity via the task manager (processes tab - rightClick on the process - Set Affinity) just for the import to the organiser.
To be honest I'd probably use your shortcut though, if things aren't happy running multithreaded and then it crashes the last thing you want is to corrupt your photo database.

Hope this helps,

Cheers.

(I have an old version of photoshop that isn't 100% happy in its plush win7 surroundings as well)

I seem to have a number of newish versions of programs from the same publisher that are not entirely happy running on anything - well, not without making nuisance of themselves and getting in the way of things I really want to run whilst feasting on all available memory.
