Took the car out for a spin with the misses over the weekend and every other car behind me was within a foot of my bumper.

Why do they do it??????

All it did was p*ss off the wife who hates the way other drivers act when they see a TVR.

Has anyone found an answer (without getting a speeding ticket).

I find this works - wait until you approach a side road or junction, just as you reach it indicate, brake at the same time & instant straight on the fuel. The look of sudden shock / panic followed by relief on the offenders faces in the rear veiw mirror cant be beaten, they usally get the message hehe

If they still keep at it then you are talking road rage - so just wave them pass

I can't answer your question, but my solution is to let them past.

If they are getting close to enjoy the sound of your car they can overtake and hear it properly.

If they are deluded chavs, let them think their 1.2 corsa has burnt you off.

If it's someone challenging you to a race then it's your call how you deal with it.
I quite enjoy it when another driver wants to play and pulls along side at traffic lights, revving away. I'll join in the revving and then just pull away as normal letting them dissapear into the distance. It must be so annoying for them !

I remember this topic coming up before not long after I bought mine.
I think the consensus then thought it was caused by not having a TVR badge on the back of the car, just the model name.

I still think shooting a few pops, bangs and flames out of the back is an easy way to get them ease off.

Yes, this is the main reason but I never get this problem much. I notice it a lot more when driving abroad, you can see everyone in the car behind craning forwards trying to read the badge.

One more thing to note is that TVRs have a lot of engine braking while normal cars do not. So if you let off the gas you will slow down relatively quickly without braking, the car behind will need to tap the brakes to keep a distance.

Get this quiet often in the TVR rolleyes and it's really annoying furious especially as it adds extra pressure on your driving because you have this tt breathing down your arse all the time which gives you no room to manoeuvre in case of an incident. I find no cure for it other than having to put up with it grumpy

I find this happens quite a lot to me. I guess it's just that it's quite an unusual car and there are lots of people out there who have never heard of TVR. Same as above, I don't think it helps that there is no manufacturers badge on the back of the Chim. I've heard of people putting large TVR stickers on the back so that people don't have to come so close to try and find out what it is.

Or it could be that the world is full of tts. The jury's out on this one

If someone is doing that, I tend to dip the mirrors so I can't see them. Out of sight out of mind. Flip them back up when you need to use them. Helps keep the blood pressure down. Works for most cases. I have a friend that drives like that in an old banger - doesn't do it to offend and he's not a car bloke either. Just has an impatient\poor driving manner.

Just drop a few gears and blow them into the weeds - works every time. Unless it is a very quick car I always create a fair distance just accelerating up to a ton or so, then I back off and let them scream past and off into the distance. After being so convincingly humbled, they very rarely do it again. Don't forget to smile smugly as they go past though.....

Happened to me a while ago,a not unusual occurance, it was a vectra, I had just turned off the motorway and was on a nice bendy road so gave it maximum piling into bends and having a great time! but still had the vectra there like a limpet, after a few miles got to a long straight and opened up, well warp !! WHOOPS BLUE LIGHTS WAS THE ROZZ on a fast driving training course! They thought the car was great!

Always happens in the Tiv. I am sure the reason is that they are desperatley trying to read what the car is. One bloke was so close to me that i could see him squinting, trying to read my cerbera badge. If you painted TVR right accross the arse of your car that would cure iy.
