Lost Keys

My wife lost a set of keys to our Mercedes C200 while she was shopping.

I need a replacement key but can you reprogram the new key so if some find the old key it wont work on the car any more,do i need new locks

If so how much is it going to hurt me.

Unless the finder of the keys can associate them to your car, it is highly unlikely that the would be able to use them. I bought a spare set for my E46 BMW, which cost £90 from the dealership.

My new CLC has a chip type of key, hate to imagine what a replacement for that would cost!

You may be able to claim for lost keys, replacement locks etc, on your car/home insurance.

Also try the nearest Police station to where your wife thinks since she last had them - They MAY have been handed in, some people ARE honest.....also backtrack all the shops etc she had been to, since she last saw them....obvious I know.

Got another key for the C32 and it cost £210. The missing key can be removed from the car so it cannot start the car but the locks will work if operated with the key itself (not the key button). The chances of someone finding them and knowing what car they are from is slim.
