Relocation expenses and income tax

Are relocation expenses subject to income tax deduction?

I thought they were exempt.

Nope, I'm afraid not.

SOME larger corporates will gross up your pay so that you don't notice the tax, but that's quite rare.

They were totally exempt including stamp duty legal fees ett, buy Norman Lamont changed it so that only the first 8000 pound were exempt. I thought that was still the current status.

That was my understanding also.

If you claim more that £8000 do you pay tax on the lot or just the excess amount?

May ask to get this moved to finance where Eric will pick it up.

Qualifying relocation expenses are allowable up to £8,000. Anything over this or anything that is not qualifying is taxable/NIC'able.
