Generally I read PH, not the Daily Mail, largely to avoid headlines like 'Shocker'.

If you want to post links to trash like the DM, please at least add some content or opinion of your own, rather than just amazement at what the DM prints.

Yours, Grumpy. (But not yet as Grumpy as BSR.)

clap Too many people just seem to link to articles without giving their own opinion/view/vailidity to the thread.

Although, to be fair to the OP, it seems to be a reasonably lucid piece of journalism (which is shocking for the DM).

Some of the things are simply "stuff happens", like samples being contaminated, but there are worrying things that smack of procedural incompetence, like being asked to go to the station, and that never being followed up. Didn't that happen with Sutcliffe too?

Most people on here would be posting from prison if it was.

The DM are just reporting the The IPCC report Unless you are suggesting they have changed the words of the report what difference does it make that the link is to the DM?
All other papers are reporting it and the report is shocking, I don't need an editor of a daily paper to make me feel that way.

1. Try actually reading the link before slamming it.
2. I did put an opinion in the OP.

Every officer involved is either dead or retired....

Seems a little harsh to be using it as a battering ram on the met.

Looking at the screw ups a lot of them would probably be easily explainable in a large scale enquiry or with outdated computer systems.

What needs to be looked at with the report is are systems and processes in place today that would negate the screw ups. Has the learning already taken place or does it still need to happen?

The IPCC report does not based on the article seem to answer those questions.

Would it happen again today? Or would it not. Or is it modern methods and practices that lead to the detection.

A lot of the errors occur over huge timescales were they not linked due to records not being created or to databases not being linked ?

I'm more interested in a report into the MET today putting these points and deciding if the same would happen.
