Matching 24 & 27 inch doors - plain & cheap!?
Discussion
Got some custom built wardrobes in a spare room that i'm needing a set of doors for. The joiner has built the opening to 51 inches to allow for standard 24 & 27 inch doors to be fitted to complete. He reckoned he could get us a matching pair of doors to finish off. Anyway, it's fair to say the joiner has not come up trumps with his suggestion and he's well and truly fecked off
Now i have searched around a fair bit but finding plain doors (ie no mouldings) in 24 inch very hard to come by. I would ideally like the hollow type walnut veneer type ones but would settle on a pair of hollow plain white ones.
The walnut veneer ones we used in the master bedroom (both 27 inch) were from B&Q and they were about £25 a door but they don't make them in the 24 inch size.
Any ideas?!

15 or 18 mm walnut veneer mdf is probably your best option. Most half decent timber yards should either stock it or be able to get you some.
Unfortunately at 24 and 27 inch you wouldn't be able to get them both out of a single 8 x 4 sheet so you are looking at two sheets or find a supplier who do the larger panels (9x6 i think)

Alternatively get b&q to cut down a 27 inch door, insert a piece of timber in the hollow void and buy a length of 50mm pre-glued iron on edging tape in walnut. Trim and sand, voila! a 24 inch door
This is what we did although i didnt get B&Q to cut it. Did it on a big circular saw, then cut a peice to fit between the two veneers and glued it in place, left it to dry over night while clamped up then planed the edge, looked like it was always a 24"er.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
