Just bought my first BMX
Discussion
Hello all
I just bought my first bmx, a Wethepeople Pheonix Pro. Even though I'm 35, I feel like I'm 9 years old. Any tips for a late beginner? My plan is to get to a mediocre level of riding in the next 2 years, a bit of dirt jumping and general messing around - without any serious injuries.
I'll post a pic tomorrow.

1st thing...for any kind of credability, lose the front brake and drop the seat a couple of inches.
Get some pads, if just 'gasket' type knee pads that fit under your jeans, and some gloves, because you WILL fall off.
Get comfy just riding street, rolling, hopping, manualing then get down the local park, it really depends what sort of park this is as to how you go about tackling it.
Main thing is 'have fun'
I've never stopped riding BMX of some sort since the 80's and have just recently got back into racing again after a 20 year break.

Skyway mags, CW bars, Snakepost, Mushroom grips, ah, those were the days...
One piece cranks!! Ah, getting nostalgic.
Must not look at ebay. Must not look at ebay.
I changed my mushrooms for Sharp grips, remember those? One piece cranks!! Ah, getting nostalgic.

Me and my mate Dean did a 'freestyle' demo to the whole school. So tame compared to today with kick turns, frame stands, switch-arounds, no foot endos, tailwhips (on the ground) and really poor arials!
I really liked the Fiola banana era, my bike changed to day-glo orange as a result
Oh and BMX Action Bike was the mag to read....
Still want a PK Ripper or Quadangle on Z-Rims.
We used to practise for ages to do simple stuff like this

I would like a BMW, still have fond memories of my custom built DP Freestyler that I had over 20 years ago
Garlick, you old git!
I had a DP Racing Firebird Freestyler, painted it pink......using emulsion. Don't ask....
The tricks I learned on that bike, I do to this day on my 24-Seven Substance 26".....
I'm just too old, fat and bald to carry off the BMX look now but I can't resist having a go when my nephew comes around to visit.
BMX's.....

b. monos, wheelies, etc
c. small jumps
d. skate park & I'll take your advice
