Chassis Numbers

Just been reading the following exert and want suggest the last line may possibly be wrong,"Note the build number refers to ALL CARS TVR MADE THAT YEAR not just S's" from

How would they know how many they were making that year in order to stamp it on the ones before the last one made? or have I miss read it?

Chassis Number Interpretation

"The last eight characters of the chassis number can indicate when it was made.
The eighth character in from the right of the serial number is the manufacturing year letter.
The characters to the right of this define the model and other information.

do you mean the build number bit ?

I take it to mean that that car is build number 123 for example and next one be it an s or a Chim or whatever will be 124 and so on ? doesn't mean thats how many were built that year ?

I read it as each year that number starts at 1 and increases until the end of the year, then the next year they increment the year letter and start the count at 1 again.
