My missus has just put a deposit down on an 07 A3 1.9tdi (105bhp) sport, what's everyones real world mpg?
I'm assuming its in the low 50's? Car will spend most of its life doing about 80ish on the motorway.
What's your worst/best figures?
Is it worth getting the 105bhp derv chipped? anyone done it? better mpg?

45? eek! hoping for a bit more than that!
is the 105bhp related to the old 90bhp tdi or the 110 'red eye' diesels?

anyone chipped one? most places quote 140bhp after a re map

Mine's a Sportback and it probably does most of it's motorway miles going along the M4 or M3 at 80 and a bit more perhaps wink If it was mine I would take more care of it but it is a company car, now due for renewal.

That does seem relatively low ... my A6 Avant, 1.9TDI 130 has the occasional tank where it drops down to 44/45mpg, but typical is 48-50mpg. Allegedly a remap can improve economy by about 5mpg.

My Octavia with the 1.9TDi 105 returns between 50 and 55mpg driven sensibly, or 48-50 mpg driven hard. I would expect to see a minimum of 50mpg from an A3.

picked car up yesterday and on the 100 mile run home averaged 53mpg with some 50mph roadworks(5miles) and the rest 85mph motorway. Quite impressed!

Would love to know if anyone has re mapped a 105bhp 1.9tdi?
Not sure if its wise to re map a car with 81k miles?
The still seems like new and feels tight and if you didnt look at the speedo it looks like its a 20k mile car!

If its been well/regularly serviced, no reason why not. May need a new clutch sooner than you would have pre-remap though.

Nope.
This was the average after leaving Bristol to Chippenham, to Calne, then Marlborough, then Castle Donnington

Tonight Tony, just got to Castle Donnington from Bristol via Calne in Wiltshire - 170 miles combining of lanes, a-roads, motorway.

I remapped my T5 which was the 102 Bhp version and it really made a big difference to how it drove.
You should have no issues with a reputable map on that mileage, clutch should be fine provided your not doing a traffic light Grand Prix start every time!
I usually find I drive the car more sensibly as it has more readily available power lower down.

Ok chaps, this may seem unbelievable but it is entirely genuine.
Just got back from a journey starting in Bristol ending in castle Donnington village, with stops in Chippenham, Calne, hillmartin, and Marlborough.
Lanes; b-roads; a-roads; DC, and motorway.
Average fuel consumption was 98.6mpg!

Not a chance that those 85mpg+ readings are accurate, sorry.

Yep. I’d be doing a brim to brim run to check the accuracy. The only time I’ve seen that sort of reading was when someone fitted a modded coolant sensor…

OP: you’ll find a huge difference in fuel consumption if you stick to speed limits. There’s a lot of extra drag at 85mph compared to 70, plus all the accelerating back to 85 when the lane hogger finally gets out of the way.

The sad thing is, modern petrol engines will match an old TDI’s figures at times.

Here is tonight’s run on the same journey. It’s genuine.

I don’t dispute that it’s reading that, but the reading won’t be accurate. What do you get if you measure at the
pump (obviously means brimming before hand and filling straight after, but would be interesting to see).

The reading on the dash computer seems very accurate but there will be an uncertainty of measurement depending how the value is established.

These very frugal results take hours of concentration to achieve and the car is best prepared to do it - no unnecessary weight carried; higher tyres pressures; coasting in neutral up to roundabouts and on down hills; keeping revs as low as possible; pulling tall gears etc.

On the upward leg of my nightly journey there is time to drive like this, however, on the return leg meetings at specific times have to be met so speeds are much nearer to the speed limit.
Last night the overall average was 89.0mpg travelling 320 miles.

Obviously I’m trying everything to crack 100mpg.
Tonight the car was warmed up for 30 minutes before driving which doesn’t seem to have improved the mpg during the initial hilly 10 miles of the journey which I hoped it would.

This time next week it WILL do 100mpg. Perhaps holding a feather between the toes and light touching the throttle pedal? 😄

The car was warmed up but temperature gauge is showing not up to 90 degrees?

Looks like a thermostat problem,

What range do you get from a full tank on those sorts of drives?
