Oh dear......looks like we are in for a repeat of the 2002 season........I got up at bloody 2am and wished I had not....it seems all the other teams have gone backwards. They were all saying "but the temperature isnt correct for our tyres" and excuses like that...but surely it is not ALL down to the tyres...Fecking Ferrari could have lapped the whole field if they had wanted

Well lets hope they leave things aloan this time. It's up to the other teams to pull their fingers out and catch up to Ferrari. No more changes to even the pack. Ferrari have the best package and so they should win.

I do agree though it was a lackluster race. I enjoyed the one day qualifying though.

Fear not NickP - the MotoGP bike boys start soon in a season where virtually everyone of them has a good chance for the title

I notice there's a new prog starting next Sunday I think - hosted by Jason Plato, it covers F1, F3000 Touring cars etc... Hopefully more people will see how dull F1 is compared to the BTCC!

Toyed with the idea of setting the alarm myself... glad I didn't.

Last season was excellent and i got up at the prospect that this season was going to be the same or better...however, after the dull (apart from a few good overtaking moves from Monty) race of last night I think that we are gonna be in for a long season

Roll on the MotoGP, 'specially Rossi on a crappy Yamaha

Moto GP is going to be more intersesting this year than last for me.
Funnily enough having one guy dominating i.e Rossi and seeing if anyone could beat him made it interesting for me. I can't wait for the season to start and I will be going down to Donnington again this year.

But my favourite to watch is Bristish Superbikes, watch it through my hands most of the time. Close racing they are all nutters.

It may be up to the others to catch up but Ferrari's budget is SO much greater than everyone else's that the other teams really do not have the resources to match.

Still, even though the thoughts of a repeat of 2002 fill me with dread (and disgust)let's hope "tyres" was the main factor and that Michelin will find Malaysia more to their liking.

One lives in hope.

Why do people in this country knock winners.I have a ferrari pit crew shirt and a few man utd shirts and when I wear them down the pub you allways get some idiot saying "you only support them cos there winning".
I have followed both teams since the seventies when neither of them won anything.I will be wearing the ferrari shirt this afternoon,I wonder how many minutes before someone says "your only wearing that because they won". My standard reply is "no pr**k i'm wearing it because the grandprix is on the telly".

I'm not anti Ferrari as such....i just dont like their ethics on winning. It is the attitude of "we must win at all costs and sod the fans"...at the end of the day WE pay for the budgets and want to see a decent show for our money

For me the interest in sport is unpredictability. When a sport becomes predictable, I begin to lose interest. However, I will always watch F1 because of my long term love affair with motor sport and Grand Prix racing. It's just that my entusiasm will be reduced if it turns out one team is going to dominate this season. I would feel just the same if it was McLaren or Williams.

I agree whole heartedly with this - problem is I can't see a way of stopping it. Flav has been saying the same - he was spending 50% of todays budget ten years ago, and came away with two world titles. The spectacle hasn't really impoved in the last decade, so why does it need to cost so much.

Flav also made another point in that the tinkering that goes on with the rules doesn't cut costs at all - the rule makers appear to be missing the point.

It would be nice if the FIA could cap the budgets of all teams at, say 75m euros, let Bernie pay all of the travel costs and police it properly. Unfortunately, Ferarri would simply contract out Aero work to a third party company, who also sells road cars or Malbro for its existence, and pay nothing for the privilage of $100m worth of research every year.

I am normally all for a free for all - problem at the moment is that there may as well only be 10 cars on the grid - which means that all F1 fans have to suffer (and agree with) constant thread hijacking saying how good moto GP is .

If the required budgets came down to a level where, say 8 teams could easily afford to meet the cap, then possibly another 4 - 6 teams could then raise 80% of the cap, giving us 28 car grids, which would be much more even

Come on FIA, lets stop pretending that this isn't all about money, and stop the problems at source.

Why? Do you have a fleet of Fiat's and Ferrari's in your garage? Do you hav shares in Marlboro? Or Vodaphone come to that?

If you mean you pay the budgets in ticket prices for Grand Prix, then you're seriously mistaken. The gate money from races goes to the circuits, as they have to pay Bernie the huge amounts to hold the events anyway.

Ferrari don't have a win at all costs attitude. They did when Schuey broke his leg and didn't let Irvine have a crack at the title, as anyone whi has paid 60 million would want that guy to bring home the bacon, not the underling.

However, they have built themselves up into a position of dominance and superiority over the last four years. Tough for all the non-ferrari fans, but that's life and F1 guys and gals.

The big losers are the fans as the whole F1 'package' is losing its appeal. Not necessarily because one team is better than the rest. But because there is no excitement. Zero traction control, manual gearboxes and slick tyres would solve ALL of F1's problem.

Are you listening Max? Try it, for just one races, I dare you, I double dare you, and see what sort of race you get.

Rant over.
Roll on the MotoGP boys, I've had enough of the money making scheme and snoozeville that is F1 for another year.

I don't agree with that. Ferrari were spending megabucks for years when they were winning nothing. Gerhard Berger was the highest paid driver at one time, paid more than Senna, even though he (Berger) was no more than an average driver.

When they did have one of the very best, Prost, they sacked him. Bloody smart move that.

The only difference now is that they have got people who can spend the money wisely.

Any questions should be aimed at Williams and McLaren. How can they spend so much money for no gain. Or, perhaps more forthrighty, WHAT THE *UCKING HELL ARE YOU GUYS DOING????!!!

Its up to them to sort themselves out.

BTW, is there such a book as 'The Ferrari Guide to Man-management, 1979 - 1997'? 'Cos it looks like Messers Williams and Head took all the lessons on board.

i think you'll all find the employees of FIAT feel a little different at the millions of $ been poured into Ferrari's quest.Yes they might make naf cars that don't sell but there is a feeling of discontent within FIAT at whats happening,if this is true or not the feeling is there within the FIAT group,i have it first hand.
I have to agree that it appears they have a must win at any cost attitude but the problem is amplified by poor spectator value in a sport that once gave a good show.Time for a change, lets hope Bernie sorts it out before it all turns to custard with hardly any spectators showing up,although part of me strangly would like to see it all fall flat on its face.

Unbelievably good reliability made for an uninteresting race, purely down I think to the new 'one engine' per weekend rule.

However I thought BAR's new carbon fibre gearbox did brilliantly to survive without problems.

Also a big to Gianmaria Bruni in the Minardi (a star in the Friday testing last year) who despite not being able to do a qualifying run and starting at the back of the grid passed his useless team mate Zsolt Baumgartner, the Toyota of Olivier Panis and Jaguar's (usless new driver replacement for Justin Wilson) Chrstian Klien early on in the first lap, and then Pantano's Jordan under braking near the end of the lap. Like so many young talent he has been "found" at Minardi's school of drivers and will undoubtably move on to a bigger team next year.
