SCH2011 How far will you go?

Started thinking about next year already so thought I'd post so I can set myself some ground rules, no clues on place though.

The recent venues have all been around the Midlands (quite rightly) to maximise attendance and equalise distances and I'll look to that again, but finding a place this year that we hadn't already done was difficult (quite a few say no when you mention 50 or so loud cars). However, there are some very good venues further north and south than that could work well if people are prepared to travel, for example the Wiltshire section of the TVRCC and the SW PHers have used the Haynes Motor Museum a few times, this is near yeovil and there are some great areas in the Scottish borders that would work really well for a weekend gathering with excellent hoons, or even or the Glasgow motor museum, the welsh valleys would do well in the west and also a number of other venues to the east. Therefore my question is, how far would people be prepared to travel for a weekend SCH2011 taking in from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday afternoon as this year?

Noting I may look at possible camping Friday and Saturday night next year for those who wish to.

i myself would travel to anywhere as long as you could camp and make a long w/e
would hate to trvel 5 hours or so on the day and then the same back

i think the camping and the convoys make this a better w/end

Been to the last two SCH's, both very close to me so would be quite happy to make a bit more of a "run out" of it and go anywhere

Book any venue but make sure you book the same weather

I've been keeping an eye on some of the photos on here from SCH2010. It brought back happy memories of previous meets and I hope you all had a great time. There's not much chance of me owning another TVR for some time yet, which is a real shame given the price of petrol where I live these days!

I loved taking her to Scotland, cerbies off to Cornwall soon. Part of the fun is the convoy.

If there were more of us around, maybe both a north and south event would be good, but there aren't too many of us. If we were very far south or north it could prove prhibitive for some to get there perhaps...

We did 500 miles in a single day to be at Chatsworth, we didn't stay over, and it was great fun - we left at 4.30 am and got home at midnight - one of the best days in 7 years of owning the S

For us, it's already a 650 mile round trip each year to SCH, so wouldn't want it to be further south than the midlands.

Aye it was around 250 miles each way for me which was great in the fine weather, but last year was a nightmare in the deluge on the motorway so the distance is about right for me. If the venue was really special then I might travel further so never say never

A good campsite with our own field is a must and a runway again for the boys who like to play at being a racer but also consider the runway for the run out so no-one gets lost if the weather was good and we could stay off the beer (not much chance...) a midnight run would be good. Theres something special about driving the Tiv with the roof off in the dark.

I'm looking forward to it again next year...

Have you really been reading the recent posts including the overheating problems? So how do you think they will cope in your heat mate... the beer will work on the drivers of course... but then again that could be a problem... SCH camp without beer ?

I think the midlands has to be favorite cos its in the middle!
For me Newark in 2009 was great but far enough just short of 500miles for the round trip and this year would have been about 350miles if I could have made it.

Yeovil would be fantastic with a dedicated motor museum but I am sure far too many miles away for many in the north.
How about Mallory, Donington, Shelesly Walsh or Duxford

Coventry airport has an aviation museum, I know we were at the Coventry motor museum a couple of years ago, but it`s centralish and a different venue, with an airfield

Tried motor museum for this year, bu they wanted drip trays, police agreement and council agreement before allowing it to proceed so decided too much hassle.

I think I've pretty much got the answer I need now, it really needs to be in the area between the lines running east west through Worcester and Cambridge to the south and Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield to the north unless I can find something really special.

Coventry Aviation Museum while interesting (you can get into the cockpit of their Vulcan) is quite limited, not a lot of facilities.

One suggestion is Imperial War Museum Duxford, an absolute knockout but I guess too far south.

Second suggestion is Prescott Hill Climb Rotary Classic Car Event. Its a great event over two days, a Cotswold run on the Saturday 60 miles approx and a day on the hill on Sunday not cheap though.

Saturday Cotswold Tour
On Saturday we are offering a 60 mile Cotswold tour starting and finishing at Prescott, where at the end there will be a cuppa and homemade cake. Camping available

Sunday Paddock Parking and Hill Runs
Sunday will be devoted to display and driving the famous hill, with passengers if you wish, in marshalled but un-timed runs. Un-timed runs eliminate the need for crash helmets and the full gamut of safety equipment etc. However vehicles must have valid road tax, MOT and insurance documentation. The Paddock entry fee is £46 per vehicle (inclusive of 2 runs up the hill, all passengers and a souvenir programme). Entries are limited to 200. Additional runs if available will be £5 each.

Orchard Static Display and Cavalcade
As before we will also be having a static display in a designated area of the Orchard for classic, vintage and special vehicles. For those who wish we will also be repeating the gentle cavalcades up the hill so that vehicles can be displayed in motion to the attending public. We feel this significantly enhances the presentation of the superb range of vehicles expected. The Orchard [static] entry fee is £18 per vehicle (£12 for motor cycles) which includes all passengers, a free programme and a cavalcade drive up the hill. Block bookings by Clubs will be particularly welcome and we will endeavour to park such groups together

They would be open to a large group entry I'm sure. I've done it now for three years with excellent weather and will be going next year as well

Hi Mark

I often frequent a victorian family hotel in llandrindod wells (which has some blinding bits of road - NO POT HOLES!!) which seems to specialise in regular car club events. Accept hotel may not be the bag for everyone, but a block book could be cheap. Not sure where the venue itself could be held, but they have got a large car park down in the victorian spa, or up at the lake. The routes out to the elan valley through the mountains are something else, if the weather is kind.

Donnington Park museum is excellent and has a big car park outside the museum. Problem with the car park is that it is gravel (it was when we stopped of on the way to the big TVR do at Rockingham the other year). Our cars were filthy with dust from just driving on it.

Easy access as it is by the M1 and A500.

How far in advance do they book events, as I'm sure we couldn't get a dedicated parking area if there was a motorsport event on.

Not much fear of that, aren't there two huge trenches across the track that were going to be access tunnels before their attempt to get the Grand Prix went tts up ?

There are large grassed areas further round from the Museum entrance.

I would travel anywhere for a great event!

See the thread "first S 1986 and SCH 2011". I believe the S will be 25 years old in 2011.

Therefore we could name the event SCH2011 - S-ilver Jubilee.

Perhaps a pilgrimage to Blackpool?
