Unfortunately, Simon has been banned from Sel(c)oc(k)...

Thats a *crying* shame for most. However, the below abomination deserves (IMO) a response from the man himself...

All I can say is that car has an exhaust system made of clear plastic wrap...... Serriously why the fk would anyone run a car that lean......oh and the flame out videos are just as fkin stupid......

Scuffie you know better..... If any of you guys buy this crap I have some old pistons for sale ...

IME Sruffie has it sewn up. His mapping is, well, on the nose. My car is faultless; moreover, hundred+ cars with these "plastic wrap" systems work...

...do you want fries with that? wink

Yep, what a load of crap that is. Tullets make the best systems anywhere, including F1 stuff. This system is proven to be very, very good.

Regarding Scuffers mapping, that is also unbeatable in my view. Again, proven on lots of highly strung and heavily used engines.

It seems that all you have to do is upset the wrong people.

It's a very tight-knit clique!

Oh dear, what nonsense.

That said, as much as Simon's maps must be good, I was told that the one on my car at one point could have been improved considerably with a good dyno session (and looking at the traces on a dyno, I suspect it could have been).

Now, I'm no expert and the person who commented on this was touting for business, but the trace did show it could have been better. Sadly I never got a copy on print or file. It never really bothered me as the car was running good power and fuelling was OK and whilst a re-map could've made a good car better, I never managed to justify the £800+ for a days mapping.

That said, I don't disagree that he has loads of cars out there running exceedingly well, with very well engineered solutions. I wouldn't buy another Honda'd Elise that wasn't a Link-Up car.

Exactamundo. Which is whilst the depth and breadth of knowledge there is superb, the 'community' in-crowd BS just is the utter opposite of anything I'd ever want to be associated with. They say 'it's a club, you get out what you put in' and I did spend a period of time posting regularly and trying to 'put in', but after being mostly ignored as 'not the in-crowd' I really can't be arsed.

I always feel a bit guilty being a free-loader, and using SELOC's great resources without putting much in myself, but TBH the forums can be unwelcoming and some of them are full of the same old clique talking utter ste, impenetrable in-jokes that you can't be part of unless you are 'accepted' by certain people. I know I'm a loner but I'm friendly and helpful on web forums - obviously not right for SELOC though.

That said, Frank's been banned from a number of car sites too. They're both doing interesting things with Lotuses, just via very different approaches. I like reading about both their exploits, though I don't find the flamewars and ad-hom BS that edifying.

I still reckon that parts of PH are the most mature, intelligent and educated of the motoring forums. Not quite so many keyboard warriors, and trolls and the like are dealt with fairly quickly. I don't think that PH should be used as a forum for proxy flamewars from other forums though… it brings us down to their level.

I joined Seloc this time last year and in that time I've got to know a few. I went to Duns in April this year and had dinner with Ian Scott Watson on his 80th birthday, I met Jim Clark's sister Bettie (they both signed the inside of my car door) I also met Andrew Tulloch (the chap who runs the JC rooms and wrote the book 'Jim Clark Grand Prix Legend’) why do I brag about this? Because it would not have happened without Seloc and the Seloc crew. I think there are some 'cold as ice' folk on there but I can still enjoy the banter and avoid them without getting banned.

Cyberface, don't let it get to you. SELOC and these forums are simply a microcosm of modern life, you get wkers everywhere, doesn't mean you need to be upset by them. Take the piss if you must, or just ignore it. SELOC, LoT and these forums are a great place to be if you want to be active in the modern Lotus community.

Go hang out at the LoT races, the Kent days out, the Lotus fest that's happening up at Snetty in a few weeks. Be forward, introduce yourself to people, have a few beers and a few laughs about nothing in particular. There are a lot of good, friendly, fun people in that club and almost all are approachable and will welcome you at any event.

+1

Seloc is a club, not just a forum. They organise some excellent events/meets which I've attended and enjoyed as well as the Elise Trophy races, and I've met quite a few people who (only 1 or 2 people excepted) have been friendly and welcoming.

I'm not particularly active on the forum, I'll post when I find something of interest or when I can help which isn't very often wink but then I'm not particularly active here either. I've met and enjoyed runs out with the Bolocs who I've also found to be friendly and welcoming, yet some will say they're a cliquey lot on this sub-forum.

like most clubs, there are many social groups within it, that have shared experiences and become friends in real life...maybe these are "cliques" ...dunno...I think its pretty normal social behaviour of humans in groups to hang out with people they know

..for sure there are many online characters coming/going that never appear anywhere in real life or when they do they are quite different

You have to get involved and go along to events, meet people etc to get the most out of it...if thats your thing of course ...otherwise you just spend time talking crap on the forums passing the time of day like many others wink

SELOC at Snetts looks great next month ...live bands on the Sat night before the Classic Lotus Festival ....

Yeah, I was talking about the *forums* - the guys I've met (like you, boggy, and some of the LoT trackday regulars) are great people. I'd be wary of going along to non-trackday 'club meets' that are primarily populated by the forum in-crowd (the 'usual suspects') but I'm still a LoT member and it's just a matter of waiting for some wheels before I'm back on the trackday scene… I'm always at the Brands LoT race meets anyway because I live very close smile Next one 16-18 July IIRC.

In fact, it's a SELOCer who may, if I'm *really, really* lucky, be selling me a set of 240R wheels, which will get me back out on the LoT trackdays.

That's what I meant by feeling guilty about not putting anything in - I love the trackdays, the people at the trackdays, the camaraderie on the road, and the amount of technical information on the forums is awesome. But, weirdly, on the forum 'community' I feel I really don't fit in, so I haven't contributed much. Perhaps it's because I started off posting there when I had my VXT, even though my first Lotus was an Elan and then an S1 Elise… Certainly there isn't the 'at home' feeling that I get on PH, where I've been contributing for 7+ years.

Anyway, if Richard sells me his wheels (I've said I'd pay his asking price….) then give me a few weeks to get them repainted and on the car and I'll be at the next local-ish LoT trackday… currently the Exige is sitting miserably with its winter boots on, and the road temperature isn't doing them any good frown

Scuffers isn't just the reason why we have fast Lotus, although of course he had alot to do with the Honda conversions.

I think in general we have a lot of passionate and enthusiastic Lotus independents that are prepared to put in a lot of their own investment and time to give us what we want because Lotus couldn't be bothered to in the past.

Steve Williams, Sinclaires (Essex Auto), Hoffmans, Autotecknix, JSD, and on and on...

Combine all that with competitiveness and we as customers get a good deal.
