Advice on software, backup etc - what do you use?
Discussion
Hi all,
After a long time lurking I've purchased a 450d and entered the world of DSLR.
In the past I've used compacts, copied and pasted files from the SD card onto my hard drive and done very little editing. Five years of photos are now on my laptop, backed up with Mozy online. I view and email photos to friends and family through Picasa (I don't want family photos online for all to see on Facebook/Flickr etc).
I'm assuming this won't do for much longer. What are my options?
Could I set up a NAS storage (to keep the laptop HD free) and then use a hosting service to show pics to friends/family? I've seen a lot of PH'ers with their own photo sites, are these expensive?
What works for other PH'ers? I want something easy to use (i.e. plug the SD card in and the software does it's thing), something safe (backup over the web ideally) and ideally something cost effective.
Any pointers?

Why should anything change?? A file is a file, doesn't matter is it coming from a DSLR or P&S. You just need more broadband speed and a bigger harddrive After a long time lurking I've purchased a 450d and entered the world of DSLR.

What I'd recommend is not saving ALL the raw files. Once you've PPd the ones you're happy with, save full size JPGs or even TIFFs and get rid of all the rubbish left.
