Has anyone any experience of middleburn chainrings? Specifically the hard coated "slick shift" ones.

Very good in my experience.

I replaced the middle ring on my XTR chainset with one and it's been faultless.

Replaced the outer ring on my Lava Dome with one and its been fine. No issues at all.

+1, that's what I use for inner rings - haven't found a suitable steel middle ring though although that's because I run a 38/40t middle...

I've used Middleburn rings in the past and not sure the hard coating makes them last any longer TBH, not in terms of justifying the higher price anyway.

I recently replaced my race face evolve xc crankset With middleburn 22/36 and bash for a brand new atlas fr with race face rings.

I tried to get on with the RF rings but couldn't. The granny was a 24 so too big but they just didn't shift as well as the middleburns despite the jump to the bigger ring being lower on the RF rings!

I've had the hardcoats for 18 months or so now and won't hesitate to replace them for direct replacements when the time comes. Can't see that being for a while yet though.

Had a set of cranks and rings on the Yeti. The big and middle rings wore out so I replaced them. Then a couple of months later the crank sheared at the axle so I replaced the lot with XT instead.

Lasted a fair few years though.

I have put 34 and 44 middleburn hardcoat slick shift rings on. I have done a 12 mile very hard off road ride and I like them. The bigger rings do make quite a difference. The proof is going to be in the longevity. The race face deus XC (new shape) lasted 18 weeks, let's hope these guys last 4 x that. They do seen to be more substantial but very light.
