SH-SH-SH-SH-SHAAAAARKS! And some fish. (Been diving AGAIN!)
Discussion
Yes, I know, I was away a few weeks ago. But I came back for a week and then went away again. Back to the Red Sea, but this time to The Brothers Islands and Daedalus Reef to see dem sharkies.
Viz was not very good in places; a lot of plankton on the water. But we saw what we wanted to see, plus a few other things.
Saw an oceanic white tip at Little Brother right under the boat. Not a very big one (6-7ft, but an OWT nontheless). Also saw schooling hammerheads at Daedalus, but they were a way away and the viz was rubbish, so only managed to get an average shot of one hammerhead from below and afar (image heavily cropped!). Also had a fleeting glance of a thresher shark at Daedalus.
The highlight was the encounters with silky sharks at Little Brother. We came back from a dive along the reef and saw one in the distance away from the boat. So for the next dive me and my chums Colon, Sally & Fat Bloke went down to about 60ft under the boat and hung about for it. A few mins later it and his/her chum turned up and we had some great encounters with them for about 45. The others went back and I stayed and the sharks got near and nearer. Air running out, so up I went. On the next dive Colon and I decided to get in as quick as poss in case anyone else wanted to do the same as us, and generally get in the way. So we grabbed our gear on, I was ready and told Colon I was jumping in. As I stepped off the back of the boat I looked down and a 7ft silky swam right underneath me. My life flashed before me (
) and as I bobbed back to the surface to grab my camera from the deck crew 4 silkies came charging in, bashing off my legs and having a good nose. I grabbed my camera and went down and snapped away. The silkies came within a couple of feet of me and turned and then circled back. It was grand. I like sharks, I does.
Any road, enjoy

Too hot in my office this afternoon to work so having a bit of a surf around and stumbled on these. Great shots, fantastic colour - assume they're not really processed. Think the ones with the divers are the best really show a sense of scale. Never done anything like this before but maybe its time I should.

Cracking pictures
As a massive, sweeping aside, have you ever done the sardine run? Mate of mine is out in South Africa preparing for it, hoping he will get some ridiculous videos.
No, I've not done the Sardine Run. I'm a wimp. I can't handle cold water

Although I'm surprised Colon wasn't the butt of more jokes...

Adjusted the levels, tweaked the brightness and contrast a bit and boosted the saturation a little, but apart from that, no, what you see is what you get...Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
