GT on 4

TV coverage confirmed for British GT Championship

The Avon Tyres British F3 Championship and the British GT Championship will both command their own stand-alone Channel 4 television shows this season.

Both championships will feature their own 30 minute programme on Channel 4 on Saturday mornings, with 12 programmes being dedicated to F3 and 8 to GT. Formula 3 coverage will be aired the week after the race with the GT programme filling the next Saturday morning slot.

Coverage of the F3 and GT Championships will be provided by Hay Fisher Productions, acknowledged experts in motor sport television and a company with a long history of televising the two championships. Channel 4's Deputy Editor of Sport, Deborah Poulton said: "We are delighted to confirm our coverage of the British F3 and GT Championships again in 2004. Over recent years we have been pleased with the audience figures that the coverage has commanded and look forward to another successful season. "

SRO's Motorsport Director John Ward said: "It is excellent news for teams, drivers and sponsors that we can confirm the Channel 4 coverage of the British F3/GT Championships. Channel 4's involvement has been a contributing factor in the success of the two championships and we are very pleased that the relationship continues ."

The British GT Championship runs over 16 rounds at the country's leading venues. The opening rounds are at Donington Park on April 3/4 with Snetterton, Castle Combe, Oulton Park, Silverstone, Thruxton, Brands Hatch and Mondello Park in Eire all on the calendar.

Excellent news.

I just hope "Saturday mornings" doesn't mean 3am!

Will the R400 support race be covered too?

Wouldn't have thought that it would be covered in that slot, but as the cameras are there anyway, they may have done a deal.

Ginettas are televised for the Donnington Round, so I guess that it is down to how much Caterham want to promote their series.

I think the R400 are being covered by Sky. I don't remember where I saw that though.

Problem with the televising of the support rounds is that all of the races have spend all their money on the racing, and can't afford Sky .

I think that I shall be seeking the help of someone suitably equipped come the start of April .
