..The UK's biggest retailer goes further, saying it would back the more radical step of introducing a minimum price.
Tesco says polling for the company found excessive drinking and the anti-social behaviour it causes is one of the public's most serious concerns.
Once again, the majority will be penalised for the actions of the few.
How about the government effectively punishing the anti social element instead?
No, too difficult, let's just put the prices up, and then the government gets more tax.

I don't see how this will effect me to be honest as i don't buy really cheap tescos value larger ..The UK's biggest retailer goes further, saying it would back the more radical step of introducing a minimum price.

Great, more regulation and red tape.
FFS, what is it with people and the British alcohol thing - like Canute with the sea. This country has always been an island of toss pots (there you go, a vintage phrase, coined for the pupose of describing such people to prove the point) and likely always will be.
In great British class tradition it's the rich wot gets the pleasure and the poor wot gets the blame. But middle and upper class drinking and alcoholism are just as rife, it's just out of sight - home, restaurant, club - rather than incontently strewn about the streets. But it's there, same as it was when Dickens described - with great humour - the pissed-up antics of the Old Pickwickians.
I say, get w
kered if it makes you happy.

It will affect you because all the retailers will maintain a price differential between products based upon perceived value.
Do you believe that Tesco are planning to sell their best wine at the same price as they sell a bottle of White Lightening then the price of all alcoholic drinks will rise proportionately?
Here’s a clue. Some own-brand items are made by the major ‘branded’ manufacturer and sold on the next shelf to the branded item at a lower price.
How about leaving the price alone and dealing with the behaviour?

Tesco in support for price fixing shocker.
Why is this in the news? Tesco like making money. They have to sell alcohol as a loss leader to stop their customers going elsewhere (because Asda, Morrison's etc. will be selling alcohol on the cheap) . Be forcing through a minimum price they nolonger have to sell alcohol at a loss to maintain their market share. Win-Win for Tesco.
Tomorrow's news - Turkey's view on Thanksgiving.

It's not a new problem and it's nothing that legislation can cure. Prohibition never works.Dave_ST220 said:

Let's hope they re-stock before you drop by tomorrow for Satutrday drinkies!

If you are 'middle class' and want to drink yourself to death then I am fine with it as long as it doesn't cause problems out of the street.FFS, what is it with people and the British alcohol thing - like Canute with the sea. Actually this one boils my bladder. I don’t buy much alcohol so why should I pay more because some other
s can’t handle their drink.
Because the new Coalition think they know whats best for you. Blame the liberals as the Tories would never agree to such a move if they were in power.

Anyway it won't effect me
1 I don't buy super cheap beer, vodka, cider etc from tescos so it won't effect me
2 I never go into town meeting the pissed up yobs who have got completely bladdered on pints of nasty larger at £3 a pint who will continue to get pissed up on £3 pints of nasty larger and have a fight.
Also as a scottish person i will add in that the neds favourite tipple (buckfast) is sufficiently expensive to be outside the realm of this legislation. So its really quite a chocolate fire guard idea.
So i say let them get on with debating this stupid law as hopefully it will stop them from using their time to draw up some other stupid law that may effect us
The only thing Tesco is interested in is Profit.
If they were bothered about society they would sell the beer at cost or above. They won't because they want market share and sell other things on the back of cheap beer. They want min prices to keep people in the shops and make profit.
Tesco effectively want to not make a loss on thier loss leaders.
